Mr. Christian de Charmoy, Business Unit Manager: Transport at Bigen, will be speaking at the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa (SIDSSA) 2026 on 25 August 2026.

Strategic transport infrastructure is central to Africa’s ability to connect markets, facilitate trade, attract investment, and unlock new opportunities for economic growth.

Christian will contribute to a Ministerial Focus session themed “Connecting Africa Through Strategic Transport Infrastructure: Unlocking Growth through Ports, Aviation and Logistics Corridors,” where he will share perspectives on developing integrated transport networks that strengthen connectivity and support the movement of people and goods across the continent.

Dr. Mias van der Walt, Managing Director: Water at Bigen, will be speaking at the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa (SIDSSA) 2026 on 25 August 2026.

Water security is fundamental to Africa’s economic development, with resilient and sustainable water infrastructure playing a critical role in supporting communities, industry, agriculture, and investment.

Dr. van der Walt will contribute to a Ministerial Focus session themed “Water Security for Economic Growth: Financing Resilient Water Infrastructure,” where he will share perspectives on addressing Africa’s growing water infrastructure needs and mobilising the investment required to build resilient, sustainable water systems.

As water demand increases and climate-related pressures intensify, the conversation will focus on practical approaches to financing infrastructure, strengthening water resilience, and creating sustainable solutions that can support long-term economic growth and development across the continent.

Dr. Mthandazo Ngwenya, Managing Director: Development Advisory & Impact at Bigen, will be speaking at the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa (SIDSSA) 2026 on 25 August 2026.

As Africa works to strengthen regional integration and unlock greater intra-African trade, the development of cross-border infrastructure is becoming increasingly critical to the continent’s economic transformation.

Dr. Ngwenya will contribute to a Ministerial Focus session themed “Developing Africa’s Cross-Border Infrastructure Pipeline: Financing Regional Integration and Trade,” where he will share perspectives on strengthening the pipeline of regional infrastructure projects, mobilising sustainable investment, and creating the conditions needed to accelerate cross-border development.

The discussion will explore how governments, development finance institutions, and private-sector investors can work together to develop bankable projects, unlock financing, and build infrastructure that connects markets, facilitates trade, and supports inclusive economic growth across Africa.

As cities grow, investing in resilient infrastructure becomes increasingly important.

We're proud to have contributed to the successful completion of Phase 1 of the City of Cape Town's R470 million Montague Gardens Bulk Sewer Upgrade, a project that will strengthen the city's wastewater network and help reduce sewer overflows for residents and businesses.

Congratulations to the City of Cape Town, the project team and all partners involved on this important milestone. We're especially proud to have been directly involved with this strategic project and that Bigen Principal Civil Engineer, Henk Aartsma, joined the official commissioning of the new sand trap and screening facility, and that the project team was recognised with the Southern African Society for Trenchless Technology's Joop van Wamelen Excellence Award 2026 for its innovative use of trenchless construction methods.
