✈️ SAAF Museum Flying Day this Saturday, 7 March 2026

📍 Air Force Base Swartkop (Mobile Deployment Wing, Swartkop)
🕢 From 09:00 - 13:00
🎟 Free entry (donations to the museum are always welcome)

Step back in time and witness South African aviation history in motion at the first SAAF Museum Flying Day for 2026.

On the flying and display line-up:
• Cessna C185
• Harvards
• Alouettes
• Rolls-Royce Griffon ground run

There will also be static displays, photo opportunities, food stalls and a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.

Members of the Shackleton Restoration Project, Spitfire Restoration Project, Canberra Restoration Project and Buccaneer Restoration Project will be on hand throughout the day. If you’ve ever wanted to get involved, ask questions, or support these important heritage initiatives, this is the perfect opportunity.

We’ll also have merchandise available, ideal gifts for aviation enthusiasts and a great way to support ongoing restoration work.

The famous SAAF Museum boerewors rolls will be on sale at the kiosk next to Hangar 3, exactly where you’ll find the Spitfire Restoration Project team. Come and grab a boerie roll and say hello while you’re there.

🎄We’d like to thank everyone who has supported the Spitfire Restoration Project this year… from donors and sponsors to volunteers, partners and followers of this journey.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and happy holidays, whatever and however you celebrate. May this time bring rest, reflection and moments shared with those close to you. 💫

Thank you for helping us keep this important piece of South African aviation history alive. We look forward to continuing the restoration in the year ahead.

🎉 Our new hangar is finally taking shape, and seeing the structure rise from an empty patch of ground to a home worthy of a South African Spitfire has been incredible.

The brick and cement work on the new hangar is now complete. 🧱
Project Lead Ian Grace and the rest of the team extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this achievement:

- Hannes Smith for the cement donation
- Ian Forbes and Africa Tanks for supplying the tanks for construction

Today we honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who served in times of war and peace. Their courage and selflessness shaped the freedoms we enjoy today.

The Supermarine Spitfire stands as a symbol of that spirit, a tribute to the men and women who gave their all.
