Specialist South African packaged wastewater treatment plant service provider Calcamite was crowned the winner of industrial software company AVEVA’s Sustainable Impact Award 2026.   The announcement was made on May 21, the final day of AVEVA World 2026, held in Milan, Italy.

What an incredible moment at AVEVA World 2026!
Today, Wilhelm Swart from 4Sight and Sebasti Badenhorst from Calcamite took the stage to present "Building a Sustainable Water Future for Developing Nations" — and what a story they told.
Calcamite has been solving one of Africa's most critical challenges for over 40 years: delivering advanced, on-site, modular wastewater treatment to communities where traditional sewage infrastructure simply isn't viable. Remote. Overloaded. Underserved.

Now, powered by a cutting-edge digital ecosystem — AVEVA Connect, Schneider Electric hardware, Microsoft Azure & Copilot, and the engineering expertise of the 4Sight team — those small-scale plants are no longer isolated. They're connected, monitored in real time, and controlled remotely.

The results speak for themselves:
✅ 85% reduction in maintenance costs on the pilot plant
✅ 195m³/day of wastewater treated remotely
✅ 25,000km of travel eliminated

This morning, our Chris-Marié van Wyk, Kemp Maritz, and Uvarl Lalla presented our Partner Games winning solution at the AVEVA & Partner Showcase Theatre — and we couldn't be prouder.

Their presentation on Intelligent Wastewater Operations for Resource-Constrained Regions tackled a real-world challenge head on: How do you operate critical infrastructure where there is no data infrastructure?

The solution they built and brought to life on stage today demonstrates exactly what is possible when -driven innovation is applied with purpose — from edge-to-cloud architecture and virtual sensors, to predictive intelligence and agentic insights powered by AVEVA Connect and Microsoft Copilot.
