🔋 Building Capacity for a More Energy-Efficient South Africa
From 2–4 June 2026, SANEDI, in partnership with Soltrain, hosted a Specialised Training Course on Energy Auditing at Anew Hotel, Hatfield, Pretoria.
The training brought together government officials, energy practitioners, professionals, and industry stakeholders to strengthen their knowledge and practical skills in conducting energy audits across various sectors. Through the programme, participants gained valuable insights into energy auditing methodologies, standards, and best practices that support improved energy efficiency, reduced energy consumption, and sustainable energy management.
A key highlight of the course was the session on Gender Mainstreaming in the Energy Sector, which emphasized the importance of inclusive participation, equal opportunities, and gender-responsive approaches in energy projects and decision-making processes. The discussion reinforced that diversity and inclusion contribute to stronger organisations and more effective energy solutions.
Participants also took part in a practical site visit to the Old Bakery University facility, where they had the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a real-world environment and identify energy efficiency opportunities firsthand.
By combining theory with practical experience, the SANEDI/Soltrain Energy Auditing Training continues to play a vital role in building local expertise and supporting South Africa's transition towards sustainable energy use, lower energy costs, and environmental sustainability.
