When choosing electrical or solar equipment, IP ratings play a crucial role in safety, durability, and long-term performance.

What is an IP Rating?
IP stands for Ingress Protection and shows how well equipment is protected against solids and liquids.

The first digits are for Solid Protection (0–6), this rates resistance to dust, dirt, and solid objects
0 = No protection
6 = Completely dust-tight

The second digit are for Liquid Protection (0–9), this rates resistance to water
• 0 = No water protection
• 9 = Protected against powerful, high-pressure, high-temperature water.

Examples of common IP ratings:
• IP65 – Dust-tight & protected against low-pressure water jets
• IP67 – Dust-tight & protected against temporary water immersion
• IP20 – Protection from large solid objects, no water protection

Sigenergy pushed their flagship C&I (Commercial and Industrial) energy storage system to the limit by simulating a worst-case thermal runaway, with no fire suppression, no sensors, and no active safety features. Just the pure structural design of SigenStack.

The results?
✅ The fire was fully contained
✅ No damage to adjacent battery packs
✅ No electrical faults or heat spread
✅ Battery management system stayed fully intact

Did you know? Germany has installed approximately 100 GW (gigawatts) of solar capacity, while South Africa's capacity is around 7 GW.
If South Africa had the same solar panel capacity installed as Germany, we would generate twice the electricity currently supplied by Eskom!
This advantage comes from the fact that South Africa receives double the sunlight compared to Germany.
Expanding solar capacity would not only help in meeting the growing energy demands of the country in a sustainable way but would also provide opportunities for economic growth and job creation in the renewable energy sector.
