The 6th Impanga Emayo Agriculture and Business Conference held in Kasama on 7th May 2026 brought together traditional leaders, church leaders, farmers, entrepreneurs, and corporate partners to discuss agriculture, land stewardship, and economic empowerment.

Held under the theme “Land, My Ancient Inheritance: Understanding the Time and Working Within Time,” the conference highlighted the importance of protecting customary land, promoting food security, and encouraging citizens to embrace farming as a serious business venture.

Guest of Honour Senior Chief Mumena of Kalumbila District encouraged participants to prioritise farming and safeguard land for future generations, while PAOG Presiding Bishop Dr. Joshua Banda outlined the vision of the Impact MMI Business Hub aimed at empowering farmers and entrepreneurs through strategic partnerships and innovation.

Board Chairperson of Seed Co Zambia and Seed Co East Africa, Mr. Chance Kabaghe, urged participants to approach farming as a profitable business, emphasising the importance of using quality seed and fertiliser, understanding soil conditions, embracing irrigation, and diversifying into livestock and other agricultural activities.

Mr. Kabaghe further reaffirmed the critical role of agriculture in national development, food security, and economic transformation.

Chambeshi Water Supply and Sanitation Company is proud to associate with and support initiatives that promote sustainable agriculture, economic empowerment, food security, and national development.

Media Urged to Champion Peace, Human Rights and Development

Northern Province has commemorated World Press Freedom Day today on May 3, 2026, with renewed calls for responsible journalism and strengthened media freedoms.

Speaking during the event, Acting Permanent Secretary Beauty Undi-Phiri reaffirmed Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for journalists to operate freely and safely.

The commemoration was held under the theme “Shaping a Future at Peace: Promoting Press Freedom for Human Rights, Development, and Security.”

Ms. Undi-Phiri emphasized that a free and independent press remains critical in fostering transparency, accountability, and citizen participation. She commended journalists for their continued dedication to truth and their role in promoting peace and development.

Meanwhile, Wellington Chanda, President of the Northern Press Club, said the theme challenges journalists to reflect on the broader impact of their work.

“This year’s theme challenges us to look beyond the newsroom and recognise the broader impact of the work we do as media practitioners,” he said.
“It calls on us to understand that press freedom is not an isolated principle. It is central to peace, underpins development, and safeguards human rights.”

He urged journalists to uphold professionalism and ethical standards in order to contribute meaningfully to national development and social cohesion.
