A float switch works by using a buoyant, tethered, or stem-mounted device that rises and falls with liquid levels, triggering an internal mechanical switch (often a microswitch or magnetic reed switch) to open or close an electrical circuit. When water hits a set level, the float moves, activating the switch to automatically turn pumps, alarms, or valves on or off, preventing overflows or dry-running.
