Setraco Construction Company is looking for qualifies and experienced staff to fill in the vacant posts for a road contract project in Southern province.
The requirement for the under listed positions shall be under performance contract on the contract you may be engaged.
1. SOIL LAB TECHNICIAN
A Soil Lab Technician supports the quality control and testing processes for materials used in road-building projects. This role involves working under the supervision of engineers to test construction materials such as, concrete, soil, and aggregates to ensure they meet required specifications and standards. The Soil Lab Technician will be reporting to the Project Manager/Site Engineer.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Material Testing:
- Perform tests on materials like soil testing, concrete, and fill densities of materials to ensure they meet project standards.
- Conduct standard laboratory tests such as compaction, grading, moisture content, and strength tests.
2. Sample Collection:
- Collect samples of materials from the construction site, including soil, sand and gravel.
- Ensure samples are labelled, stored, and transported correctly to avoid contamination.
3. Data Recording and Reporting:
- Record test results accurately and maintain detailed logs of testing activities.
- Assist in preparing reports and documentation on test outcomes for review by engineers or project managers.
4. Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as sieves, ovens, balances, and compression machines.
- Perform routine calibration and cleaning of equipment to ensure accurate and consistent results.
5. Compliance with Standards:
- Ensure all testing procedures comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., ASTM, AASHTO) and project specifications.
- Follow safety protocols and lab procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
6. Assisting Engineers
- Provide support to engineers in setting up tests and experiments.
- Assist in analysing data and discussing results to determine if the materials meet the project's quality requirements.
7. Field Testing Support:
- Participate in on-site testing, such as density testing using nuclear gauges or other methods, to ensure that the road base is compacted correctly.
- Report findings and test results from the field to the main laboratory or project team.
8. Sample Preparation:
- Prepare and process raw materials for laboratory testing by crushing, sieving, or blending them.
- Ensure that all samples are prepared to standard specifications before testing.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of construction materials and testing methods.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in recording data and handling samples.
- Ability to follow standard procedures and protocols.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and tools used in materials testing.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Good communication skills to report findings clearly to supervisors.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma/Certicficate NCC or better with some coursework or experience in construction or engineering being beneficial with 3 to 5 years’ experience in Construction industry.

- Basic knowledge of health and safety regulations in a lab or construction environment.
2. SAFETY OFFICER
A Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that an organisation complies with health and safety regulations and maintaining a safe working environment. This role involves identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.

Key Responsibilities

1. Health and Safety Compliance:
- Ensure the organisation complies with local, national, and international health and safety laws, regulations, and standards.
- Keep updated with changes in legislation and ensure that the company adapts accordingly.

2. Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification:
- Conduct regular risk assessments and identify potential hazards in the workplace.
- Recommend control measures and ensure that all safety hazards are addressed.

3. Safety Training and Awareness:
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.

8. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain records of safety inspections, audits, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Prepare and submit safety performance reports to senior management or regulatory authorities.

9. Coordination with External Bodies:
- Liaise with external health and safety bodies, such as regulatory agencies or safety consultants.
- Ensure that any necessary permits, certificates, or approvals are obtained for site operations.

- Experience in health and safety management, preferably in industries such as construction, manufacturing, or logistics.

3. ACCOUNTS CLERK/SITE CLERK
An Accounts Clerk or Site Clerk performs administrative and financial duties to ensure smooth operations at a construction site or office, depending on the role. They support project teams and financial departments, handling records, processing payments, and maintaining documentation. The Accounts Clerk will be reporting to the Director of Finance and the Site Clerk will be answerable to the Accounts Clerk.
Key Responsibilities of an Accounts Clerk
1. Financial Record Keeping:
- Maintain and update financial records, including invoices, receipts, and payments.
- Assist in preparing balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports.

2. Accounts Payable and Receivable:
- Process incoming invoices and ensure timely payments to suppliers.
- Handle customer billing, monitor accounts receivable, and follow up on overdue payments.

3. Data Entry and Reconciliation:
- Accurately enter financial data into accounting software or spreadsheets.
- Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies.

4. Payroll Assistance:
- Assist with payroll processing by collecting timesheets and ensuring accurate employee payments.

5. Tax Compliance:
- Support in preparing tax returns and ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
- Maintain accurate records for VAT, payroll taxes, and other relevant taxes.

6. General Administrative Duties:

Inventory and Materials Handling: Monitor stock levels of materials and ensure timely reordering. Track tools, equipment, and materials used on-site.
Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure that health and safety documentation is kept up-to-date and that the site complies with legal standards. Maintain records of any incidents or accidents on-site.
Communication Support: Liaise between site workers, project managers, and external stakeholders. Assist with the distribution of site instructions and notices to relevant teams.

Skills and Qualifications: Strong organisational and communication skills on local language and English.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office (Accounts Clerk). Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.

Experience in clerical or administrative work, with a focus on accounting or site-related duties. Knowledge of accounting software (Accounts Clerk) or construction documentation processes (Site Clerk) with 3 to 5 years’ experience in Construction industry.

4. CONSTRUCTION SURVEYOR
A Construction Surveyor plays a crucial role in construction projects by providing accurate measurements and layout information necessary for the successful completion of the project. They ensure that construction activities are carried out according to design plans and specifications .

Job Summary:
The Construction Surveyor is responsible for providing precise measurements and layout control for construction projects. This includes establishing reference points, guiding the construction team, and ensuring that structures are built in accordance with the approved design plans and specifications. The Construction Surveyor works closely with project managers, engineers, and construction crews to monitor the progress of the project and ensure it meets all safety and quality standards. Reporting to the Project Manager/Site Engineer.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Site Layout and Measurement:
- Conduct detailed site surveys to establish accurate reference points, alignments, and levels for construction activities.
- Mark boundaries, guide excavations, and establish the location for foundations, structures, and utilities.
- Set out grids, control points, and benchmarks based on architectural and engineering drawings.

2. Monitoring Construction Progress:
- Ensure that the construction is following the planned design by continuously checking alignments, levels, and measurements.
- Assist in adjusting site layouts if changes or corrections are needed.
- Monitor the placement of concrete, steel, or other materials to confirm that they meet design tolerances and specifications.

3. Collaborate with Construction Teams:
- Work closely with engineers, architects, and construction managers to ensure that survey information is correctly interpreted and implemented on-site.
- Provide guidance and instruction to construction teams to maintain accuracy in site layout and installation.
