A few years ago, access was the biggest barrier.

Not lack of ideas. Not lack of talent. Just access.

Access to tools.
Access to mentorship.
Access to spaces where you could actually build, not just learn in theory.

I saw it around me, and I experienced it myself.

So I leaned into building what I wish existed. Through Plastal-Bot Builders, robotics , and making I’ve been working toward one simple idea: more creators, fewer spectators.

Today, I’m excited to share that I’ve been selected as a Fellow for the 2nd Cohort.

For me, this is more than just a program. It’s an opportunity to deepen my technical skills, learn from incredible people, and most importantly, refine ideas that can scale access to innovation across communities.

I’m especially looking forward to exploring how we can build systems that are not just innovative, but sustainable and locally relevant.

Grateful for the journey so far, and even more excited for what’s ahead.

The real stars are the young minds around me. Seeing learners from different schools step forward to explore coding, AI, and robotics reminded me that the future of technology isn’t somewhere ahead of us — it’s already here. Their curiosity, courage, and hunger to learn are what truly stand out.

I may be in the center of the picture, but they are the center of the story. And if this is where they’re beginning, there’s no limit to how far they can go.

Every time I find myself in rooms filled with innovators, builders, engineers, and dreamers, I’m reminded of something important: Zambia is changing.

Quietly, steadily, and sometimes loudly, progress is happening.

We are seeing more young people exploring robotics, AI, software development, hardware design, and creative tech solutions. Not because it’s trendy, but because the challenges we face today require new ways of thinking. And it’s exciting to be part of a generation that’s not only asking “why?” but also asking “why not?”

Innovation doesn’t always start with funding, equipment, or the perfect environment. It often starts with a simple spark — curiosity, a small idea, or a belief that things can be improved.

Whether you're working on a major system, a student project, a startup, or just learning something new in your free time, remember this:

- Tech is no longer the future — it is the present.
- The opportunities are growing.
- The world is taking notice.

Zambia has the talent, and many are just getting started.

So here’s to the people building, learning, experimenting, failing, improving, and showing up again with passion.

I’m inspired every time I see young Zambians push the boundaries of what’s possible. We may still be early in the journey, but the direction is promising, and that is worth celebrating.

Onwards. 🚀

A Glimpse Into Tomorrow

It was the 1st of November, a day that began like any other, yet turned into one that will forever be etched in my journey as a robotics innovator.

At the E-Mark Innovation Hub, I had the privilege of presenting my Robotics Platform Project to the Hon. Mutati, Minister of Science and Technology. In that moment, I wasn’t just sharing a prototype, I was sharing a vision: a future where robotics and artificial intelligence work hand in hand to solve real challenges, especially in Food Security and Agriculture.

Among the many brilliant minds in attendance were Mr. Elais Chipimo, Chaka Nyathando (Pompi) and Bluseke Bluseke of Media, all united by a shared belief that innovation is the heartbeat of progress.

This meeting was not just a presentation; it was the first of many steps in the ongoing journey toward the ITU AI for Good Competition – Zambian Chapter, where our efforts aim to showcase how AI can become a tool for sustainable development and change.

I’d like to give a huge shout-out to Obrey and Edward of EO Robotics, The Makerspace Zambia, and TME Education for their incredible support, collaboration, and mentorship throughout this path.

The story of innovation is still being written — and this, perhaps, was just the prologue.

From Fritzing to KiCad: My Journey Into PCB Design

Over the past few weeks, I embarked on an exciting new chapter in my electronics journey, designing my first custom PCB in KiCad. This milestone traces back to 2021, when I was first introduced to electronics and started tinkering with Arduinos. I spent countless hours experimenting with sensors, displays, and peripherals, learning how hardware and code come together to bring ideas to life.

As my curiosity grew, I began to feel the limitations of not having access to all the physical resources I needed for deeper, hands-on learning. Tools like Fritzing became invaluable during that period, helping me visualize circuits, create simple prototypes, and document my projects more effectively.

Fast forward to today, I finally took the leap into KiCad, determined to push my design skills further. After following a detailed six-hour tutorial, I was able to complete my first custom PCB design of a development board, from schematic to layout. The process was both challenging and deeply rewarding, as I got to apply real-world design principles, validate connections, and ensure that the board met industry-standard design rules and manufacturing requirements. Seeing it come together, ready for fabrication, felt like watching an idea come to life in copper and traces.

This experience reminded me how far consistent learning and curiosity can take you and how every skill, no matter how small it seems at first, eventually connects to something greater.

A special thanks to the amazing KiCad community for their open-source spirit and to the creator of the tutorial that guided me through every step of this process ( Explorations). Your resources made this milestone achievable.

And to every maker and learner out there, keep exploring, keep building, and never stop being curious. The learning curve may be steep, but the view from the top is always worth it.

How my passion for CAD began…

It all started during my time with Zambia Robotics, when we competed in the FIRST Global Robotics Challenge in 2022. I was leading the mechanical department, and with that came the exciting (and sometimes overwhelming) responsibility of handling all things mechanical, from hardware layouts to how electronics were arranged on the robot.

The challenge theme was carbon capture, and our robot had to meet specific gameplay objectives. We built a range of mechanisms, a flywheel shooter, ball intake system, and even a pulley mechanism to transport balls for shooting. But before we could bring any of these ideas to life, we had to visualize and iterate. That meant sketching… lots of sketching.

My curiosity led me to explore digital tools, and that’s how I discovered CAD. Not long after, I got started with Fusion 360 in my freshman year of uni, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Coupled with a growing love for 3D printing, I found a creative space where design met function. Since then, I’ve applied these skills to various robotics projects through Plastal-Bot Builders, a group I proudly work with to build innovative tech solutions and share knowledge.

The journey has only just begun, but it’s been a fulfilling one.

The reliance on Stack Overflow as the go-to platform for developers grappling with bugs and technical hurdles often leads to more confusion than clarity. Despite its vast repository of solutions, the multitude of contributors and their varied approaches can complicate matters further, making it a daunting task to sift through for the most relevant information. This not only consumes precious time but also adds unnecessary stress to the already challenging work of developers.

Personally, I've encountered these frustrations with Stack Overflow, which is why I've turned to OpenAI 's ChatGPT for assistance. Its simplicity and effectiveness in providing tailored responses based on prompts have made it a reliable alternative. Now, with Stack Overflow partnering with OpenAI, leveraging their advanced language models promises to enhance accessibility, usability, and, importantly, convenience. This collaboration holds great promise for streamlining the troubleshooting process and empowering developers with more efficient solutions. I share your excitement about this partnership and eagerly anticipate the positive impact it will have on the developer community.
