MINISTRY OF ENERGY PARTICIPATES IN 2026 AFRICA PUBLIC SERVICE DAY EXHIBITIONS.

The 2026 Africa Public Service Day officially opened in Lusaka today under the theme: “Enhancing Public Sector Institutions and Empowering Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships to Achieve Universal Water Availability and Safe Sanitation by 2063.”

The event provides a platform for public institutions to showcase their services and engage with the public and stakeholders.

The Ministry of Energy is among institutions exhibiting at the event, highlighting its programmes and initiatives while strengthening public awareness and stakeholder engagement in the energy sector.

ZESCO & KOREA’s KS ECO SOLUTIONS SIGN HISTORIC 500MW SOLAR PACT

The Ministry of Energy today witnessed the signing of a landmark Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between ZESCO Limited and KS Eco Solutions Holdings Limited for the development of a 500-megawatt solar power project in Zambia.

Representing Permanent Secretary for Electricity Eng. Arnold Simwaba, Director Planning and Information Sineva Kambenja witnessed the signing ceremony.

The Ministry of Energy has commended the initiative by ZESCIO and KS Eco Solutions as it was a direct interpretation of the government policy on private sector involvement in the energy sector through the new reforms.

ZESCO Managing Director Eng. Justin Loongo signed the agreement on behalf of the utility company, while KS Eco Solutions Holdings Limited Chief Executive Officer Prof. Ma Hong-il signed on behalf of the Korean firm.

Zambia's Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Andrew Bwezani Banda, also attended the ceremony. He described the signing as a defining moment and the beginning of a brighter and more productive relationship between Zambia and the Republic of Korea.

The 500MW solar power project with battery storage represents a significant milestone in Zambia's efforts to diversify its energy mix, strengthen energy security and attract foreign direct investment into the renewable energy sector.

KOREANS TO BUILD NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS IN ZAMBIA

A Korean delegation led by Zambia's Ambassador to South Korea, Andrew Banda, today visited the Ministry of Energy and expressed keen interest in investing in Zambia's energy sector through nuclear and solar power projects.

The delegation, representing KS Eco Solutions Holdings Limited, met Permanent Secretary for Electricity, Arnold Simwaba, and his team of energy experts to discuss potential investments, including the establishment of nuclear power stations in Zambia.

Eng. Simwaba welcomed the proposed investment, noting that Zambia's rapidly growing economy requires an expansion of energy sources to meet increasing demand.

Zambia currently generates about 4,000 megawatts of electricity and is targeting 10,000 megawatts to support the government's ambition of producing three million tonnes of copper annually by 2030.

He added that while Zambia has recently placed significant focus on solar energy development, the country remains open to diversified investments that will strengthen long-term energy security.

Amb Banda said discussions on Korean investments in Zambia's energy sector had been ongoing for some time and expressed satisfaction that the engagements were now beginning to materialise.

He described South Korea as a reliable partner with proven expertise and confidence in delivering successful investment projects.

The proposed investments are expected to further deepen Zambia-Korea cooperation and contribute significantly to the country's efforts to diversify and expand its energy generation capacity.

VICTORIA FALLS HYDROPOWER STATION OPERATING AT FULL 108MW CAPACITY

ZESCO’s Victoria Falls Hydropower Station is currently operating at its full installed capacity of 108 megawatts (MW), providing a significant boost to the national grid and reinforcing confidence in a stable and reliable electricity supply across the country.

The positive development was highlighted during a Public Relations and Media Tour of the facility, where journalists and communications practitioners had an opportunity to appreciate the station’s operations and its critical contribution to Zambia’s energy security, economic growth and sustainable development.
