Most people see a pipe on a truck. Here is what happens before that.

It starts with raw polymer arriving at our Chongwe facility and being verified before a single kilogram goes near a machine. Wrong material means wrong pipe, and no amount of good work downstream fixes that.

From there it moves through the line:

Extrusion. The polymer is heated and forced through a die that gives the pipe its diameter and wall thickness.
Sizing and cooling. The pipe is drawn through a vacuum sizing tank and cooled under controlled conditions so the dimensions hold.
Marking. Each length is printed with its size, pressure class and the standard it is produced to.
Cutting and coiling. Smaller diameters are coiled for transport. Larger ones are cut to length and stacked.
Checking. Wall thickness and dimensions are verified through the run, not just at the end.

Then it is loaded and sent out — to a mine, a farm, a municipality or a hardware supplier somewhere in this country.

Some joints have to be made in places where a fusion machine simply will not fit.

A trench that is too narrow to align two pipe ends. A repair on a live line that cannot be lifted. A tie-in against an existing run where nothing can be moved to suit you.

Electrofusion solves it. The fitting has a heating element built into it. Slide it over the prepared pipe ends, apply current from a control unit, and the fitting welds itself to the pipe, forming a fully sealed joint without any need to press the ends together.

Where it earns its place:

Trench repairs and tie-ins
Confined or awkward access
Joints where alignment for butt fusion is impossible
Work where operator technique is a risk

It is more forgiving than butt fusion and stronger than a mechanical joint — the right answer for the connections that would otherwise cost you a day.

Before any of us understood pressure ratings, wall thickness or flow rates, someone stood at a chalkboard and taught us how to read, how to measure, and how to ask why.

Every borehole sunk, every water line laid, every mine serviced across this country traces back to a classroom somewhere — a teacher in Kabwe who made maths make sense, a teacher in Mongu who stayed behind after class, a teacher in Lusaka who refused to let a bright learner give up.

Fish farming is one of the fastest-growing parts of Zambian agriculture, and the equipment it depends on lives permanently in the harshest place possible — floating in water, under full sun, every day of the year.

Ask any experienced driller when to sink a borehole and most will tell you the same thing: now.

The hot season is the toughest time of year for water, and that is precisely what makes it the right time to drill. The water table sits at its lowest point before the rains arrive. A borehole that gives you good yield in October will give you good yield in every other month of the year. Drill in March, when the ground is full, and you may be looking at a well that disappoints you by September.

There are practical reasons too. Roads are dry and rigs can reach sites that become impossible once the rains start. Access tracks hold up. Crews work faster.

If you are drilling this season, the casing and screen you put down matters as much as the hole itself. Zenith supplies both, 110mm to 250mm, produced in accordance with DIN 4925 and ASTM F480-88, direct from our facility.

Two 110mm HDPE pipes can sit side by side and look identical. One is rated PN6. The other is PN20. On a pumped line, that difference is the difference between a system that runs and one that splits.

The outside diameter is what you measure. The wall thickness is what carries the pressure.

In HDPE this is expressed as SDR — the ratio of the outside diameter to the wall thickness. A lower SDR means a thicker wall relative to the diameter, which means a higher pressure rating. So SDR 11 is a stronger pipe than SDR 17 at the same diameter.

What this means when you are buying:

Never order on diameter alone
Always specify the pressure class the design calls for
If a price looks unusually low for the size, check the wall
Read the print on the pipe — it tells you what you have

A thin-walled pipe sold at the right diameter is not a bargain. It is a failure that has not happened yet.
