Planning for implementation of the framework and helping with supply quality and reliable power is imperative .
As Zambia’s grid continues to integrate more renewable energy, compliance with power quality standards is becoming increasingly important.
Directive 10 of the Revised Power Quality Management Framework from the Energy Regulation Board ERB states:
"All licensed Generators utilizing Variable Renewable Energy Sources (VRES) with a capacity above 5MW shall ensure that the appropriate
power quality and reliability parameters stipulated in Table 1, Part 2 of ZS 387 are measured, including harmonics.”
Compliance with ZS 387 is not a box-ticking exercise. It requires:
1. Properly specified Class A power quality analyzers
2. Correct installation at the Point of Common Coupling
3. Ongoing monitoring, validation and analysis
4. Structured reporting aligned with Energy Regulation Board requirements
Many VRES developers and operators may not have in-house power quality specialists or monitoring infrastructure.
Safetricity Engineering Limited supports developers and licensees through:
1. Professional installation of compliant PQ monitoring systems
2. Preventive maintenance and calibration support
3. Data analysis and technical interpretation
4. Structured compliance reporting to ERB
