ZAMBIA (our land, our pride)
Born on the twenty fourth of October nineteen sixty four, Zambia has flourished with peace and success in its fifty four years of independence. With its abundance of peace, its of no surprise that it is referred to as "the oasis of peace". Zambia has also been recognized as one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Africa.
Zambia boasts a vast cultural diversity, consisting of approximately 73 ethnic groups which are spread across its beautiful landscape. It is an occurrence which has led to the mushrooming of a very rich culture, which is bonded by the various traditional ceremonies like the kulamba ceremony of the chewa people. It is usually hosted, annually in August in a small town called katete in Eastern province. Thanks to a considerably good road network and ever improving accommodational facilities like hotels and lodges, most traditional ceremonies are now accessible to everyone, tourists inclusive. The traditional ceremonies features various displays of breath taking dances and practices dating back to the times of the ancestors.
Zambia is also home to the mighty Victoria falls, which is one of the seven wonders of the world. It was discovered by the great European explorer David Livingston who, upon sight of the beautiful surge of water passionately falling down the falls; described them as " scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight". The jubilant explorer named the falls after Queen Victoria. The falls are also locally known as "Mosi-o-Tunya" or "thundering smoke" and are situated near the town of Livingston which was named after the great explorer. Highly publicized accounts of his journeys have motivated and inspired both international and local visitors to come and see this living miracle of beauty.
