𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀, 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗭𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗮’𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲

I’ve been reflecting on a simple but powerful reality:

Zambia imports over 90% of its electronics and industrial equipment.

That’s not just a trade statistic.
It’s a reflection of how our systems are structured.

Public and private sector demand for technology continues to grow. Infrastructure is expanding. Industries are becoming more automated.

But there’s a gap we cannot ignore.

We are consuming far more than we are creating.

✔️ Zambia has capable engineers.
✔️ Zambia has real demand.

‼️ What’s missing is a stronger bridge between local capability and local production.

Today, importing is often the default.
Not always because it’s better—but because it’s easier.

And that raises an important question:

𝗜𝗳 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱, 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲 ⁉️

That’s not just an engineering question.
