CHARCOAL IS KILLING OUR FARMS.
BIOGAS CAN SAVE THEM!

Bad poultry management is hurting our environment. Day-old chicks and piglets need warmth for 21 days. We call this brooding.

With the Zambian situation:
-With loadshedding and high fuel prices, most farmers had no choice but to turn to charcoal. The result? Trees slaughtered across Zambia to keep chicks warm.
-Massive deforestation which left tracts of land bare and exposed.
-Soil erosion from wind and water resulting to land that can’t grow crops anymore

The Greenbelt Energy Solution:
1.Biodigesters:
We must replace charcoal with biogas for brooding. Why? Because with biogas from chicken and pig manure:

During the ZARENA conference panel discussion, Ms Nakasamu Spoke on innovation and technology, she emphasized that young people are naturally innovative and are uniquely positioned to leverage emerging tools such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) to address challenges within Zambia’s energy sector. From improving energy efficiency to designing smart, data-driven solutions for renewable energy systems, youth have the capacity to transform how energy is produced, distributed, and consumed.
She highlighted that by integrating technology with creativity, young people can develop scalable and sustainable solutions that respond to real community needs. This not only accelerates the energy transition but also opens up new pathways for entrepreneurship, job creation, and inclusive growth.

We are proud to share highlights from our founder, Ms. Jane Nakasamu, who spoke at the Zambia Renewable Energy Association Conference 2026 as one of the panelists, contributing to an important conversation on the role of youth in the energy sector.
We extend our sincere appreciation to zarena_zm for the opportunity to share our voice and insights as Greenbelt Energy Zambia.
Responding to the question on the exact roles young people can play in the energy sector, she emphasized that youth possess two powerful assets: their age advantage and their innovative mindset. She highlighted that young people are well-positioned to take risks and venture into business, leveraging their ability to learn and grow in areas such as solar energy and biogas solutions.
She further noted that young people are highly adaptable, able to navigate different environments and evolving industry demands. With an estimated 5 million youths out of Zambia’s 20 million population, she underscored that the country has a strong and capable workforce to drive the energy transition forward.
