Single Mother 9
After getting better, Milika decided not to disclose to anyone the real identities of the people who attacked her. She stuck to saying she had no idea who the attackers were.
Everything went back to normal and it was time Milika moved in to stay with the old man. Besides having a lot of critics, Milika did what she thought was right for her and her children. The man was good enough to accept the children, including Michelle and her child. The only huge change Milika had made was to stop working as she always felt embarrassed being seen by students after the attack. She wasn't good at being a house wife, so she started a restaurant which would keep her and her sister busy.
One day, as Milika was in the restaurant doing the usual when Ruth and Jane walked in. Knowing that the the place was well-secured; Milika stood still right in front of them.
"How can I help you?" She asked.
"Who got the dowry your man paid?" Jane asked.
"Really? Is that why you're here?" Milika wondered.
"Yes," Jane walked closer to her, "Are you going to tell us or not?"
"It doesn't matter,"
"It matters to me," Jane said, "You tell me, or I beat you again."
Milika turned to Ruth and look her in the eyes, "What did I do wrong?" Ruth couldn't look the friend in eye. "What did I do to deserve this hatred?"
"Oh, everything changed honey," Jane said.
"Am not talking to you Jane," Milika said, "If you really hate me this much Ruth, why don't you look me in the eye and tell me it yourself.?"
Tears roll down Ruth's face. She quickly turned around and ran off.
"Thats sad," Jane said, "She is gone and that means she does hate you."
"Get out," Milika ordered.
"Oh really?" She smiled.
"I said get out!" Milika repeated herself. And immediately, two security guards walked in.
"Is there any problem ma'am?" One of the asked.
"No, thank you," Jane answered.
"Sorry, but I was asking her," he said. Jane looked at the security officers then at Milika and walked away.
At home, Ruth was in her bedroom crying. Shortly Lydia, her daughter, walked in. She quickly tried to clean her face but Lydia noticed.
"Whats wrong?" Lydia asked.
"I thought I made it clear that you need to knock before entering here,"
"Mom, I heard you crying thats why I walked in,"
"You heard me cry?"
"Yes mom," she sat next to her, "Whats wrong?"
"Nothing baby, I just have a bad headache."
"Can I bring you some painkillers?"
"No mama, I will be fine," she said.
"Okay, let me bring you some water," she suggested.
"Okay yes, even better," she said and walked out to get water.
One afternoon, Milika drove late to the kids' school to pick them. She reached as soon as she could and didn't find any kid at that time. She went round the school, office by office, classroom by classroom; all the three kids were not there. She then went to the security guard and she was told all the kids were picked by their parents. How so? Who then could have picked three kids? And why didn't Nancy call her, because she usually went to school with a phone? She walked to her car as she called Nancy's phone. The phone went unanswered. She tried again and again, and at last; someone picked.
"Hello?" A man said.
"Hi, who is this?" Milika asked.
"You called me first and you're asking me who I am?"
"Where is my daughter?" Milika couldn't hold it.
"What are you talking about?" The man asked. She paused for some time then said, "Fred, stop playing games with me."
"Wow, am glad you still remember my voice,"
"Where are my kids?" Milika asked.
"They are fine,"
"Give Nancy the phone," she ordered.
"She is not with me right now, she is having some dinner, all of them are having dinner, bye," then he hanged up.
"Okay, let's play," Milika said to herself and drove off.
Fred had reached the school earlier and picked the kids. He took them somewhere to eat. So when Milika called Nancy, he asked her to give him the phone. So he answered the call and went somewhere far from the kids to avoid them hear the conversation. After hanging up, he quickly walked back where he had left the kids, but he didn't find them there. He looked around within the restaurant, he couldn't see them. He ran around the whole shopping mall, he couldn't find the kids anywhere. Then he had to panic. He didn't see that coming. Who could have taken the kids so quick? He then called Milika back..
"Oh, so you have sent someone to come and get the kids?" He asked.
"What are you talking?" Milika wondered as she drove.
"That was so quick and I love it, but you should come and get Nancy's phone,"
"You know what? Am not ready for the drama. Just give me my kids or this won't end well," she cautioned.
"You're the one bringing up drama here," he said, "You picked your kids, okay?"
"Alright, I see you want to play," Milika said, "I will make sure you give me back my children."
For sure, Fred knew Milika wasn't the one who got the kids. Then who? He ran back into the restaurant and asked some waiters if they had seen who had gotten the kids; but none of them saw anything. He quickly called his friend who was a police officer and he promised to help.
As he approached the gate of his house, Fred noticed a car parked near the gate. He walked quickly to see who the owner was., only to find Milika standing and she was very furious.
"I have come to get my children," she said.
"I don't have them," he said with dry lips.
"I don't want to start fighting with you," she said, "You abandoned those kids., I raised them myself and today you want to play games?"
"Which part of 'I don't have your kids' don't you understand?" He asked.
Slowly Milika pulled out a short gun.
"I will kill you," she warned.
"Okay fine," he said, "I got them, yes. But the time I was talking to you, I excused myself and when I went back; the kids were gone."
"I'll kill you Fred," she said. Fred knew she wasn't joking, so he had to give a good reason why she shouldn't shoot him.
"Look, I understand I got the children without telling you, I just wanted to have some food with them, then someone kidnapped them the time I was talking to you," he explained.
"I will count one upto five, and if I don't see my children, I will shoot," she said.
"Listen, am saying the..."
"One," Milika started the counting.
"Look understand this, I didn't..."
"Two,"
"Why can't we agree on this one and look..."
"Three,"
"Am telling you the truth Mimi, you need to..."
"Four,"
"Okay fine, I know who got them,"
"Who?" She asked.
"Its Jane," he said, "I suspect to have done that because we divorced in court last week."
"Take me to her." She said.
With the gun in his head, Fred was driving not knowing where he was going.
"You do something stupid, I will shoot you," Milika reminded.
"I know," he said.
"How far are we from where we are going?" She asked.
"Not far," he replied.
"Stop," she ordered all the sudden.
"What?"
"I said stop,"
Quickly Fred pulled over.
"Get out," she commanded.
"What are you doing?" He wondered.
"I said get out!" Milika yelled.
Slowly, he stepped out but still with the gun on him as Milika didn't give any chance to escape.
"Kneel down,"
"What are you doing in the middle of nowhere here?" Fred wondered.
"I'll not repeat myself this time around," she said. Anyway, he knelt. Quickly and carefully, Milika tied both his hands and legs. Then got the seal and sealed his mouth. After that, she grabbed him and threw him into the boot.
As the car was moving, Fred could hear Milika talking on phone saying she was going there with him.
Where is she taking me?" He asked himself.
