The Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc (CEC), a member of the SAPP and listed on the Lusaka Securities Exchange, is a Zambian incorporated power transmission, generation, distribution and supply company and a major developer of energy infrastructure in Africa, respected for its skills in designing and operating transmission systems. CEC owns, operates and maintains power transmission, generation an

d distribution assets servicing customers in Zambia and the DRC, and is one of the largest international power traders in the region. With a control centre on the Copperbelt, we operate and maintain a network comprising transmission, distribution and generation assets.Our assets comprise an emergency power generation capacity of 80MW, transmission and distribution network of 900 km of overhead power lines, 43 high voltage substations and electricity network carrying capacity in excess of 700MW. CEC’s strategy is to:-

grow and diversify its business by pursuing viable opportunities in the energy sector;

- play a role in observing and shaping the present and future business environment for the benefit of the Company, its customers, and its suppliers;

- develop strategic partnerships with technical and financial resources to realise a shared vision of energy infrastructure development in Zambia and surrounding territories.

- Factors that drive growth in CEC’s core business include:-
expansion of mining activities by CEC’s existing mine customers;

- connection of new mines and other mining related businesses under planning;

- domestic wheeling growth from expanding residential, industrial and commercial loads on the Copperbelt;
power trading involving CEC’s owned international Interconnector between Zambia and DRC. Our key strengths:-

- More than 60 years of supplying power to the mines;
Over 1,000 kilometres of 220kV and 66kV transmission lines;

- Circa 700 kilometres of optic fibre on power lines;

- 43 high voltage substations and dedicated control centre;

- 1MW solar PV plant;

- 80MW embedded thermal generation;

- Power transmission for national utilities – Zambia and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC);

- Co-owns and operates the Zambia – DRC Interconnector lines (DRC part owned by DRC national utility, SNEL);

- Accounts for at least 45% of national power consumption;
Certified biodiesel producer (900,000 litres per annum capacity); and

Track record of success.

Speaking at the DRC Mining Week 2026 Pre-Conference Session, CEC-DRC SARL Managing Director, Major Sikaundi, stressed that reliable energy is the foundation of a competitive mining sector and a thriving industrial economy. He noted that unlocking the DRC's full economic potential will require strong governance, a credible investment environment and effective collaboration between the public and private sectors.

He also highlighted the need for expanded transmission networks, modernised distribution systems and a diversified energy mix incorporating hydro, solar and storage solutions. These investments are essential to delivering sustainable energy security for both industry and households, while supporting the DRC's long-term development ambitions.
