Solar folks, here’s the quick difference 👇
When you wire panels in parallel, the voltage stays the same but the amps add up — like in the top diagram (18V becomes 18V, but 6A+6A+6A = 18A). This is common when you need to stay within a specific voltage limit based on your charge controller specs in the NEC guidelines.
When you wire them in series, the voltage adds up while the amps stay the same — bottom diagram (18V+18V+18V = 54V, still 6A). Series is usually better for long runs because higher voltage reduces losses.
Just make sure whatever you do fits the voltage and current limits your controller and wiring are rated for — NEC rules don’t play around with overcurrent and conductor sizing. 🔧⚡️
