Turning Environmental Data into Operational Intelligence

At FreedPer Scientific, we believe that reliable decisions begin with reliable data.

We recently completed the installation and commissioning of an Automatic Weather Station at Karo Platinum Mine's Chirundazi Dam, supporting both mining operations and dam management activities.

What makes this project particularly exciting is that the weather station is located in a remote area, yet through Starlink connectivity, its data can be accessed by stakeholders from virtually anywhere in the world in near real-time.

The station continuously monitors a wide range of meteorological and environmental parameters, including:
📡 Solar Radiation
☀️ Ultraviolet (UV) Radiation
🌱 Evapotranspiration
🔥 Fire Danger Index
🌬️ Wind Speed and Direction
🌧️ Rainfall
🌡️ Temperature and Humidity
📈 Barometric Pressure
💧 Dew Point
🌡️ Heat Index

Behind every weather station is a complex chain of science, engineering, telecommunications, data management, and decision support systems. The data generated is used to improve operational planning, water resource management, environmental compliance, safety, climate resilience, and risk management.

This project demonstrates how modern environmental monitoring is no longer limited to weather forecasting. Today, high-quality data supports critical decisions across mining, agriculture, water resources, renewable energy, education, research, infrastructure, disaster risk reduction, and many other sectors.

At FreedPer Scientific, we are proud to be contributing to Africa's environmental intelligence ecosystem—one weather station, one sensor, and one dataset at a time.

Another School Weather Station Successfully Delivered!

FreedPer Scientific is proud to have recently handed over a modern weather station to Harvard Senior School in Harare, Zimbabwe. As one of Zimbabwe's forward-thinking and state-of-the-art educational institutions, Harvard Senior School continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation, STEM education, and preparing students for the future.

The installation of a school weather station provides learners with hands-on experience in meteorology, climate science, environmental monitoring, and data analysis. During the handover, our team trained staff on the use of weather instruments, weather and climate data recording, career opportunities in the weather and climate sector, and the practical application of weather intelligence in industries such as agriculture, aviation, water resources, mining, and disaster risk reduction.

As climate change increasingly influences our daily lives, schools have a unique opportunity to equip the next generation with the knowledge and skills needed to understand and respond to environmental challenges.

We commend Harvard Senior School for investing in experiential learning and environmental stewardship. We encourage other schools, colleges, and educational institutions to explore the benefits of establishing their own weather stations and bringing science to life for their students.

Delivering Strategy. Building Bridges. Creating Impact.

Yesterday, FreedPer Scientific concluded a business consulting project with an outstanding team of students from the University of Iowa—Lydia Caddell, Allison Bachman, Hannah Ehrp, and Natalia Jasinska—working under the supervision of Gregg Hammann. Their mandate was to develop a robust pricing strategy for FreedPer Scientific, and their ex*****on was nothing short of exceptional. The team immersed themselves in our business environment, applying a rigorous mixed-methods approach and interrogating the challenge from every angle.

Their work culminated in clear, data-driven recommendations, most notably the development of a value-based pricing strategy, with insights that were not only strategic but immediately actionable—a rare and valuable combination.

This collaboration was made possible through the Iowa John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (Iowa Entrepreneurship) Business Consulting Program, an initiative that connects student talent with real-world business challenges. For organizations like ours, it presents a unique opportunity to access fresh thinking, structured analysis, and global perspectives at no cost to the business.

Freedom Mukanga Honoured in Addis

Freedom Mukanga was honoured at the African Meteorological Society Awards Banquet held on the evening of 22 April. The recognition formed one of the standout moments of the First Joint Conference of AfMS–IFMS–EMI, acknowledging his contributions to the growth of the African Meteorological Society (AfMS) and his role in the successful delivery of the same conference in Addis Ababa.

What made the recognition especially meaningful was the company in which it was received—alongside distinguished leaders widely regarded as global leaders in weather and climate science, including Dr. Buruhani Nyenzi, Mr. Workneh Degefu, Prof. Charles M. Ichoku, Prof. Bernard Tyubee, and Dr. Harinder Pal Singh Ahluwalia. Their mentorship and trust have played a significant role in shaping Freedom’s journey and contributions to the global meteorological community.

The evening also marked a major milestone for the Society with the official launch of the inaugural Journal of the African Meteorological Society. The journal was unveiled by Mr. Fetene Teshome, Director General of the Ethiopian Meteorological Institute and President of World Meteorological Organisation Regional Association I (Africa). This first edition features high-quality research from leading scientists across the continent. Freedom contributed to this landmark publication as Production Manager, supporting its development and delivery.

The event was made possible through the support of key partners, including IGAD Climate Prediction and Application Center, the American Meteorological Society, the Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Campbell Scientific, Ethiopian Airlines, and INFO-ELECTRONICS SYSTEMS.
