Strengthening Water Monitoring in Zimbabwe

FreedPer Scientific has completed the installation of Evapotranspiration Automatic Weather Stations (ET-AWS) for the Upper Manyame Sub Catchment Council.

The stations feature:
1. Davis sensor suite for reliable meteorological observations
2. 5-minute data transmission for near-real-time monitoring
3. Solar power + battery backup for reliable operation
4. Buffer memory to retain data during connectivity interruptions

For a key player in hydrological and water resources management, this data can support better catchment planning, irrigation management, drought monitoring and water resource decision-making.

From Zimbabwe to Eritrea, the FreedPer Scientific team was on the ground delivering specialised meteorological services as part of a weather observation project supporting the Government of Eritrea.

Working alongside COSMOS Contracting, GRAND GROUP and the Ministry of Agriculture, our assignment involved the installation, calibration, commissioning and training associated with critical weather observation equipment.

For FreedPer Scientific, successful project delivery goes beyond installing instruments. This mission demonstrated our ability to:

🔹 Work effectively with multiple stakeholders and project partners
🔹 Install, calibrate and commission specialised weather observation equipment

WELCOME TO THE TEAM, LYDIA!

We’re excited to welcome Lydia Caddell to FreedPer Scientific as our new Growth & Strategy Associate.

Lydia brings an exciting combination of entrepreneurial thinking, research, strategic problem-solving, communication, and business development experience. She recently graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurial Leadership and an Associate degree in Political Science.

Her interdisciplinary background gives her a unique perspective at the intersection of business, innovation, partnerships, and the public sector — a combination that will be valuable as FreedPer continues to grow.

Working remotely from the United States, Lydia will support our efforts to expand FreedPer’s presence across Africa, develop strategic partnerships, identify new business and funding opportunities, and connect more organisations with world-class environmental monitoring solutions.

As FreedPer continues to grow its international network and expand its reach across Africa, we’re excited to have Lydia contributing to this next chapter of our journey.

Supporting Weather Education Through School Weather Station Upgrades

FreedPer Scientific recently completed weather station upgrades at Manunure High School in Mbizo, Kwekwe, and Sizane High School in Pelandaba, Bulawayo.

As part of the upgrades, the schools received new weather observation instruments, including:
• Stevenson Screens
• Wind Vanes
• Rain Gauges
• Cup Anemometers
• Thermometers

Beyond upgrading the equipment, the FreedPer Scientific team also took time to engage with teachers and students on the importance of weather observations, climate data and environmental monitoring.

The discussions also highlighted potential career opportunities in meteorology, climatology, environmental science, hydrology and related scientific fields.

At FreedPer Scientific, we believe that strengthening weather observation is not only about installing instruments—it is also about building knowledge, inspiring curiosity and investing in the next generation of scientists and environmental professionals.
