R-22 Refrigerant Ban in Air Conditioning

Our main services include:

Air Conditioning Design
Air Conditioning Installation
Air Conditioning Full Maintenance Service
Electrical Design
Electrical Installation

If you have Air Conditioning that is over 5 years old the likelihood is that it contains R22.

New legislation that comes into force on the 1st January 2010 means that you will not be able to get hold of virgin R22. The knock on effect will be that recycled R22 will become harder to find and more expensive. Most manufactures are phasing out R22 replacement parts.

As from the 1st January 2015 all R22 will be banned from sale.

If you have R22 air conditioning systems or are not sure, why not contact us for a full audit, and we can advise you as to what is needed.

Most R22 systems are now very inefficient compared to the new inverter systems

Calculate Btu - Air Conditioner
ow do you calculate btu your air-conditioner for your room? Please note that the method of calculate btu mention below is just an estimation to determine the amount of air-conditioner btu need to cool your room. Giving a consideration of 1-2 people is staying in the room.

Step 1:

Calculate the volume of the room - Length x Breadth x Height = Ans / 2 (answer divided by 2)

For example - 2.5m x 3m x 2.5m = 18.75 / 2 = 9.375

Step 2:

With the given answer (9.375). Match with the closest BTU capacity air-conditioner below with your answer which is between 9,000Btu and 12,000Btu.

List of air-conditioner BTU rating:

• 9,000Btu
• 12,000Btu
• 15,000Btu
• 18,000Btu
• 21,000Btu
• 24,000Btu

And so on...

Therefore you should get a 9,000Btu air-conditioner if you are afraid of cold and get a 12,000Btu air-conditioner if you are a person who are afraid of hot by getting a slightly bigger air-conditioning BTU.

How to Calculate BTU from Watts

This post came about because I got a lot of hits from people looking for this information on the How To Calculate Server Heat post.

1 Watt will produce 3.412 BTU per hour

To calculate the BTU/heat output of an electrical system, substitute BTUs for Watts and use the following equation:

BTU/h = (V * I) * 3.412

Where:
V = Volts
I = Amperes (Amps or Current)

Using the simple math above, we can calculate the heat produced by an appliance on a 120v (US Standard) system drawing 2 Amps for 60 minutes (1 hour).

BTU/h = 3.412 * (120 * 2) = 818.88BTU
