🏗️ ENGINEERING EDUCATION: UNDERSTANDING RAFT FOUNDATIONS
📍 Pomona City Project | Accommodate Construction Projects
Have you ever wondered why some houses are constructed on a raft foundation?
A raft foundation, also known as a mat foundation, is a reinforced concrete slab that supports a building by distributing its loads over a large area of ground.
Unlike conventional strip foundations, which transfer loads through individual foundation strips beneath walls, a raft foundation spreads the structural loads across a much wider area.
🔍 Why consider a raft foundation?
✅ Load distribution: Helps distribute building loads across a larger ground area.
✅ Reduced differential settlement: Can help minimise uneven settlement when properly designed for the site’s soil conditions.
✅ Structural integration: Provides a continuous foundation system that connects the building’s support points.
✅ Site-specific solutions: Can be suitable for certain soil conditions and building layouts where conventional foundations may be less appropriate.
👷🏽♂️ The engineering behind it matters!
A raft foundation is not simply about pouring a large concrete slab. Proper soil investigation, structural analysis, reinforcement detailing, ground preparation, and concrete quality control are essential to its performance.
At our Pomona City project, we believe in showcasing not just the construction process, but also the engineering principles behind building safe, durable homes.
Building a house starts with the ground beneath it. Get the foundation right!
