Antibody therapeutics are a large and rapidly growing drug class with over 100 approved therapeutics, many more molecules in preclinical and clinical development. A lot of experience has been collected over the last 2-3 decades by research and development of these molecules.
The attached review article in Cell nicely describes current technologies and upcoming trends for the design of even better antibody-based therapeutics.
Personally, I think the learnings from protein engineering of antibodies over the last 2-3 decades can now be transferred towards the design of better gene/drug-delivery systems, for better cell/gene therapy and genome editing applications.
