Remember a house is a life long structure so you need quality bricks, below is a quick check for an ordinary person shopping for quality bricks.

FIELD TESTS ON BRICK TO CHECK QUALITY

• VISUAL INSPECTION
• Shape
• Uniformity
• Square straight edges
• Size
• Squareness
• Dimensions

• Colour
• Uniformity

• DIMENSIONAL TOLERANCE
• Check measurement of length, width and height. 225mm(L)x108mm(W)X73mm (H). Variation in dimensions are allowed only within narrow limits, ±3%

• HOMOGENEITY
• A broken brick structure should be homogeneous,
compact and free from any defects such as holes, lumps

• HARDNESS
• Give clear ringing sound when struck with each other
• Should not break when striking against each other
• Should not break when dropped to the ground from a
height of 1,5metres
• Scratch on brick surface with the help of a hard item. If
no impression is left on the surface, brick is treated as to
be sufficiently hard

• WATER ABSORPTION
• Water absorption for brick immersed in water for 24hrs
should not in any case exceed 20% of average
weight of dry bricks.
