A pleasure to meet Owen today as he stopped to get a refuel in Diamond DA 40. Owen is a CPL student with FTA, based in Wellcamp (Toowoomba). He currently has around 130 hours and will complete his ATPL exams and MEIR before finishing the course, when he will be eligible for an interview with the Qantas group of companies.

Very good to meet Phil (R) who was doing his BFR with Rob (L) from Ausflight, a local RA Aus flight school. Phil has his own Jabiru and also several Rotorway helicopters but only one is flying at the moment. I look forward to seeing one if you bring it in here in the future Phil.

Andy (R) is from Canada and is the pilot of the Socata TBM 700 which performs the role of the lead plane for the Large Air Tanker. Jason (L) works for the Queensland Fire Service as an Air Attack Supervisor. Together they work as a team and guide the LAT into position to most effectively drop their load or water and or fire retardant. Both highly trained professionals doing an awesome job.

The fire season normally starts on September 1. Today, some of the the assets deployed to Bundaberg were on display and did a practice run over the airfield for the benefit of the media. I managed to get some shots of the following:

1: One of Aerotech's impressive Blackhawks dropping water:
2: The lead plane, who with precision guides the large Air Tanker onto target. Rego VH-PGA, a Socata TBM 700 piloted by Andy and crewed by Jason from QFES and operated by Black Edge Aviation.
3: The Conair Aerial Firefighting LAT (Large Air Tanker) capable of dropping 10,000 litres of water and / or fire retardant.

All of these professionals have vast experience and it's a pleasure to watch them do their stuff.
