Detecting a defect and understanding it are two very different things.

Finding corrosion, cracking or wall loss is only part of an inspection.

The bigger question is what that finding actually means for the asset.

Is it isolated or part of a wider pattern?
Has it changed since the previous inspection?
What could be causing it?
Is it something to monitor, investigate further or address now?

That context matters.

Good inspection isn't just about collecting readings or identifying indications. It's about building a clearer picture of asset condition so the people responsible for it have useful information to work with.

Sometimes the most important part of an inspection isn't finding the defect.

It's understanding what it's telling you.

Boilers don't usually fail out of nowhere. There's normally warning signs, corrosion, thinning walls, weld defects, fatigue cracking, they just build up quietly where you can't see them.

Our team carries out AICIP accredited boiler inspections across Gladstone and the region. We use rope access to get into the hard to reach spots without needing scaffold, and NDT methods like ultrasonic thickness testing to check what's actually going on, not just what looks fine on the outside.

Catching these issues early is the difference between a planned fix and an unplanned shutdown.

One thing that's easy to overlook during an internal tank inspection is the amount of planning behind the markings...

Each numbered location becomes a permanent reference for inspection data.

Wall thickness readings, visual observations, coating condition and any identified defects are all linked back to those locations.

When the asset is inspected again years later, the same reference points can be revisited to understand what's changed, rather than simply collecting a new set of measurements.
