Before you book the machine a trip home, where’s its next job?

If it’s back in the Goldfields, compare local storage with the cost of taking it away and bringing it back.

Include both transport legs, how long it will sit, the access you’ll need and any servicing or repairs before it goes back to work.

A two-week gap and a six-month wait are different conversations.

Gritty offers machine storage in Coolgardie, with servicing and repairs available by arrangement.

Send us the machine details, expected dates and any work you’d like to discuss. We can quote our side so you’ve got something concrete to compare.

The machine doesn’t need a scenic tour. It needs a plan.

It’s easy to tell people to ask for help.

The test is what happens when they do.

If someone says they’re unfamiliar with a machine, you’ve got something to plan around. If they flag a concern, you’ve got something to address.

Giving them a hard time for mentioning it solves neither.

That’s why the Gritty 6 need to apply to Jack, Jason and the people supporting the crew, too.

Clear expectations. Honest conversations about capability. Taking concerns seriously and working out the next step.

“Any questions?” has to be a real invitation.

Not the opening round of taking the p**s.

One useful question for your next contractor enquiry:

“What makes them a good fit for this job?”

The answer should tell you more than when they can start.

If you need leading-hand coverage, say that early. If there’s a particular machine they need to know, put it in the brief. Be clear about the support they’ll have on site, too.

Nobody enjoys discovering the important bit after the ute’s arrived.

Jack and Jason come from the tools and they want to understand the work behind the vacancy, including the bits a trade certificate won’t tell them.

Send through the gear, the job and what you need the person to handle. That gives us a useful place to start.

You bring in a contractor to take work off your plate.

Not give you a second job chasing them.

We get the support that you need, and know that it goes beyond who turns up with a toolbox.

A capable fitter matters. Just as much as clear communication, straightforward invoicing and someone who helps sort things out when the plan goes sideways.

Preferably without seventeen follow-up emails.

That experience shapes how we work at Gritty. We understand the job, put forward someone suited to it and take responsibility when something needs sorting.

The bloke on the tools matters. So does the business backing him.

You’ve already got machinery and maintenance to worry about.

“The Six.”

The Gritty Contracting team recently joined our good friends Kylie McLerie & The People & Culture Office to sit down together and have an honest conversation about what it truly means to be part of Gritty Contracting - and what that should look like to the people around us.

After plenty of discussion, laughs, coffee and snacks, we collectively defined six standards that reflect who we are, how we work and what we expect from ourselves and each other.

They are:

1. WE SHOW GRIT
2. WE WORK SAFE
3. WE DON’T STAND BACK
4. WE WORK AS ONE TEAM
5. WE DO THINGS PROPERLY
6. WE LOOK GOOD

Each standard is backed by 3 actions, which are included in each slide below.

One of the biggest highlights was seeing just how closely aligned our team’s personal values are.

It was a proud moment and a strong reminder that Gritty is built on more than skills and experience. It is built on a team of reliable, professional people who respect one another, take pride in what they do and can always be counted on to have each other’s backs.

These are our standards.

This is “The Six.”
