✨ Day 3 | 2026 KIC iMEN Project ✨

While we weren’t able to take photos on the day, the iMEN students got off to a great start with their first industry tour, visiting the Alcoa Huntly Mine Site in the morning, followed by a drive‑around of the Pinjarra Refinery.

Students really enjoyed the opportunity to see a large‑scale mining operation up close and hear about the processes involved, as well as gaining insight into how both sites operate and the range of roles across the industry.

It was great to see students asking questions and showing a genuine interest in what they were learning — experiences like this really help make industry pathways feel real.

The students represented KIC and their schools extremely well. Their behaviour, attitude and engagement throughout the day were outstanding, and they should be very proud of how they conducted themselves.

A highlight from Day 1 of the 2026 KIC iMEN Project was hearing from Ethan, a Year 12 student at Mother Teresa Catholic College who is currently in his second year of the KIC Heavy Diesel Plant Mechanic Pre‑apprenticeship.

Ethan shared his KIC journey with the group, which began in 2024 when he took part in the KIC iCAREER Project. It was during that program that he learned about the KIC Pre‑apprenticeships and decided to apply for the Heavy Diesel Plant Mechanic pathway.

He was successfully selected and commenced the two‑year pre‑apprenticeship in 2025. Now in his final year, Ethan is on track to complete the program in September and graduate with the KIC Class of 2026.

Ethan spoke confidently about his experience, his work placement and his passion for working on heavy plant — it was clear to see how committed he is to his chosen pathway.

The iMEN students asked lots of great questions as they begin thinking about their own future pathways, and hearing from someone only a couple of years ahead of them made it very real.

Ethan is a fantastic ambassador for the KIC programs, and it’s clear he has a very strong support network from his school and family.

Thanks Ethan 😊

✨ Day 1 | 2026 KIC iMEN Project ✨

We kicked off the 2026 KIC iMEN Project yesterday with 33 Year 10 students, after meeting them and their families at last week’s Information Night.

It was a great start to the program, with students introducing themselves and sharing their career interests — with many keen on electrical, engineering trades and heavy diesel plant mechanics.

A big thank you to Will and Simon from our Program Partner, Sims Metal, who joined us to present students with their project shirts.

Students spent the morning getting to know each other in their new groups through team building activities, before heading into the afternoon where industry representatives shared their own career pathways and experiences.

The day wrapped up with students starting to think about their future, completing their personal and career goals for the program.

A really positive first day — we’re looking forward to seeing how this group develops over the coming weeks.

✨2026 KIC iMEN Project | Information Night ✨

Last night, we were delighted to welcome students and parents to the 2026 KIC iMEN Project Information Night where students had the opportunity to learn more about the program ahead of its commencement next week.

The KIC iMEN Project is a 7‑day program for Year 10 students interested in exploring trade career pathways in Years 11 and 12.

Throughout the program, students will take part in industry site visits, hands‑on employability workshops, and sessions focused on workplace behaviours, resumes, interview skills and career pathways. The program is designed to help students become work ready and gain insight into whether a career in industry is the right fit for them. Students who successfully complete the program will celebrate their achievements at a graduation on the final day.

Thank you to our Program Partner Sims Metal. We truly appreciate your commitment to supporting our local students.
