From fighting cell counts to consistently below 90,000.

For Evan and Sheriden Williams, robotic milking has delivered measurable improvements in milk quality, cow health and day-to-day farm management.

After eight years with robotic milking, they've seen a significant reduction in somatic cell count.

"Our cell count has dropped from 180,000-200,000 down to consistently 60,000-90,000. We're no longer fighting cell counts, and identifying health issues is much easier with the data from the robots," Evan and Sheriden share.

The benefits extend beyond milk quality.

"The cows are much quieter and more relaxed. For cow comfort, this is the best setup we've ever had."

🐮 Adam's First Season with a GEA Automated Calf Feeder

"It's definitely been easier. It's reduced the workload and the amount of hours every day. The calves look better than they did last year." - Farmer Adam Waltham, Gippsland VIC

When Adam choose a GEA Automated Calf Feeder, his goal was simple: save time while giving his calves the best possible start.
After his first season, he's already seeing the benefits. With less time spent on daily feeding tasks and a more consistent feeding routine, Adam has been able to focus on other jobs around the farm while supporting healthy calf development.

✅ Reduced daily labour
✅ More time for other farm priorities
✅ Consistent feeding routines
✅ Healthy, growing calves
If you're looking for ways to make calf rearing simpler and more efficient, automated feeding could be worth considering.

📢Visit GEA at South Gippsland Expo this week to explore our Calf Feeder and discuss with our team of experts about your needs.

580 cows. 10 robots. More flexibility for the whole family.

For Erin and Dennis Lomax, investing in robotic milking wasn't just about technology. It was about creating a better lifestyle while continuing to grow their dairy business.

Today, they're milking 580 cows through 10 GEA DairyRobot R9500 units.

"With GEA's robots, we're no longer tied to the dairy every morning and afternoon. We have more flexibility, more family time and the cows are happier because they can choose when they want to be milked."

The robots, combined with CowScout monitoring, provide valuable insights into cow activity, rumination and herd performance.

"The information is pretty good. We can see what every cow is doing, identify high cell count cows and make management decisions much faster," Dennis shares.

"We love our cows, but we also wanted some of our life back."

For many dairy families, the challenge isn't just milking cows. It's finding enough hours in the day.
This farm made the move to an 8 x GEA DairyRobot R9500 system, supported by CowScout monitoring, guided cow traffic and automated sorting, with two goals in mind:

✅ Giving cows the care and consistency they deserve
✅ Creating a more sustainable workload for the family

With a family of three making up the core labour force, long days had become the norm. Moving to robotic milking has helped take the pressure off daily routines, while maintaining a strong focus on cow welfare, milk quality and herd performance.

Their setup includes:
• 8 GEA DairyRobot R9500 with quarter‑level milking
• Guided entry cow traffic system
• 450 CowScout monitoring collars
• Automated sorting gates
• GEA FlexiSwing cow brushes

"This is all you need to milk 150 cows in a seasonal system."
That's how GEA AMS expert Jurgen Steen describes this 2-robot setup.

When people think about robotic milking, they often picture large farms with multiple robots. The reality is automatic milking can be tailored to suit a wide range of herd sizes, farm layouts and future goals.

For some farms, that's two robots.
For others, it's ten.
The conversation is not "How many robots?"
The conversation is "What are you trying to achieve?"

23/08/2026

"The system is basically foolproof. Once the calves are adjusted to it, it's great. I top up the milk powder, check the screen or the app, and wherever I am, if a calf hasn't come in or hasn't had enough litres, it tells me." - says Farmer Narelle McDonald.

The GEA Automated Calf Feeder helps take the guesswork out of calf rearing.
Using the control screen in the calf shed or the mobile app, you can quickly see:
✅ Which calves have fed and which haven't
✅ How much milk each calf has consumed
✅ Drinking behaviour and feeding activity
✅ Alerts for calves that may need attention
✅ System performance and feeding status

Whether you're in the calf shed, the dairy, or out in the paddock, key calf information is always within reach.
Real-time visibility helps you identify changes early, make informed decisions, and spend less time manually checking calves and more time focusing on the jobs that matter.
