How do you make a long-term infrastructure strategy clear, accessible and enduring — while still retaining the technical depth behind it?

The next session in our 2026 Asset Management in Action Webinar Series will explore:

TasWater’s Sewer Regional Master Plans

Join Carter, Specialist Planning Engineer at , as he shares how the Sewer Regional Master Plans establish a coordinated, long-term strategy for Tasmania’s sewerage systems to 2070.

A slide-based format has been adopted to present complex technical information in a clear, accessible and enduring way.

Supported by detailed engineering reports and calculations, the plans focus on the information needs of internal and external stakeholders and provide explicit direction to:

• project delivery teams
• operations teams
• renewals teams
• development teams

The approach ensures strategic intent, future concepts and risk-based decisions are visible, shareable and retained beyond individual roles or traditional report-based documents.

One of the sharpest differences in the 2026 research appears in how people experience career progression.

Twenty-eight per cent of women name career progression or a sense of ceiling as a current career challenge, compared with 8% of men.

This insight deserves a considered response through transparent pathways, mentoring, sponsorship and access to leadership development. Progression should be visible and achievable across the profession.

What practical change would make career pathways clearer in asset management? Explore the full findings: https://web.amcouncil.com.au/The_State_of_Asset_Management_Sector/

How confident are you in the asset data driving your investment decisions?

Accurate asset information is more than good record-keeping. It's the foundation for better maintenance planning, risk management and long-term investment decisions.

In the latest edition of The Asset Journal, Leanne Cluley and Jason Ronsisvalle from Reduxo Pty Ltd explore how organisations can move beyond fragmented or outdated asset information to establish a reliable single source of truth.

Drawing on real-world case studies presented at AMPEAK26, the article demonstrates how structured asset assessments, strong data governance and reliable information can support better lifecycle outcomes across healthcare, housing, data centres, mining and university infrastructure.

The message is clear: better data enables better decisions – and ultimately safer, more resilient and sustainable assets.

Some of the most significant organisational risks don't sit within a single framework. They exist in the gaps between them.

That was one of the key messages from the yesterday's Asset Management Council Melbourne Chapter event, "Attesting Across the Seams," presented by Tony Ridley.

The session explored how organisations can strengthen assurance by better integrating asset management, governance, risk, resilience and security practices. It was a timely reminder that effective decision-making relies on understanding not just individual assets and systems, but also the connections and dependencies between them.

A big thank you to Tony Ridley and the Asset Management Council Melbourne Chapter for sharing their expertise and creating a forum for such valuable discussion and networking.

The sector's most commonly identified skill gap is also the area members are least likely to choose for their own development.

Twenty-six per cent cite standards, asset management systems and processes as a major organisational skill gap, with fundamental asset management knowledge close behind at 25%. Yet only 5% say standards is a skill they personally want to improve. Strategic asset management and SAMP lead personal development priorities at 26%.

This is a useful design challenge for employers and professional bodies. Foundational learning needs to feel practical, role-relevant and connected to the decisions people make every day.

How can we make the fundamentals easier to apply? Read the report: https://web.amcouncil.com.au/The_State_of_Asset_Management_Sector/

Your next SAMP or AMP doesn’t have to start with a blank page.

If you haven’t explored AM Council’s new AM Plan Tools yet, bring a
real planning task and give them a try.

Start by defining your organisation, project or asset portfolio. Choose a
SAMP or AMP, then add the objectives and context the plan needs to
reflect.

The tool helps you generate a structured draft that you can review and
refine, section by section. The more relevant context you provide, the
more specific the draft can be.

Still working out what your plan should cover? Start with the exemplar
library and explore how other organisations have approached it.

AM Council is continuing to lead the practical adoption of AI across
the profession, giving members opportunities to build confidence
through the work they already do.

Your expertise guides the process. You review, edit and remain
accountable for the final plan.

How can sustainability be embedded into asset management decision-making throughout the asset lifecycle?

The next session in our 2026 Asset Management in Action Webinar Series will explore:

Embedding Sustainability into Water Corporation’s Asset Management Practices

Join Hurst, Principal – Performance and Forecasting in the Asset Strategy Business Unit at Corporation, as she shares how Water Corporation has embedded sustainability into asset management decision-making by integrating sustainability requirements across project planning, design and delivery using a new Sustainable Assets Guideline and Option Assessment tool.

The sustainability outcomes outlined in the guideline are aligned to:

• Corporate and Asset Management Objectives
• ESG Strategy
• Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) Rating Scheme

The approach integrates:

• early materiality assessment
• option assessment
• risk/opportunity management
• measurable targets

It is now applied to all Water Corporation major projects and has resulted in quadruple bottom line outcomes and improved decision quality, delivering enhanced sustainability value to customers and communities.

Operational and financial decisions are strongest when they are built from the same view of the asset base. Fewer than half of organisations have reached that point.

Only 46% of respondents say their asset management data is integrated with their finance system. Integration is highest in medium organisations, where 62% have their asset and finance data connected, and it drops away at both ends of the scale: just 35% of small organisations and 40% of large ones report the same.

Mid-sized organisations tend to have both the volume of activity to justify integration and the systems agility to deliver it, while very small organisations often lack the business case and very large ones the agility.

Your asset management plan is written. Where could it be stronger?

Our members asked for practical support to strengthen asset management planning. AM Council’s AM Plan Tools put that feedback into action.

AM Council’s AM Plan Tools bring a purpose-built approach to AI-supported planning. While general-purpose AI tools support a broad range of tasks, AM Plan Tools are grounded in AM Council’s AMBoK
framework and informed by more than 500 real-world asset management plans.

Use “Diagnose my plan” to identify gaps across 11 dimensions of good practice and focus your next review.

It’s another way AM Council is putting industry innovation into members’ hands, with your professional judgement guiding the decisions.
