We’re proud to recognise Liam Johnson as the first DrillSafe Award winner for 2026.

Since joining SMW in June last year, Liam has consistently demonstrated what it means to work safely and professionally in our operations. He has maintained a strong incident-free record, while consistently going about his work with a high level of diligence and attention to detail.

Liam is a true quiet achiever and someone who leads by example, follows procedures, and contributes positively to the team environment. His ability to work safely, support his crew, and maintain a steady, reliable approach on the drill makes him a valuable part of the SMW team.

We would like to congratulate the Q4 2025 winner of the Drillsafe Award, Sasha Carr.

Sasha joined our team as a trainee driller at our Wilpinjong project in NSW in early 2025 and has recently been promoted to a crew drilling position, after continually improving each swing and quickly becoming one of the project's leading performers.

Not only is Sasha continually improving his technical skills as a driller, but he also leads from the front with his dedication and commitment to safety, which is a great example of the Drillsafe values and the SMW Way.

Sasha never shies away from getting in and lending a hand when needed and always has a positive attitude. It has been a pleasure having Sasha as part of the team, and we look forward to seeing him continue to develop in the future.

We were pleased to attend the Hunter Mining Club February Luncheon yesterday, with a great turnout of leaders and peers from across the resources sector.

Thank you to guest speaker Sean Milfull, Regional General Manager NSW at Whitehaven Coal, and to Stuart Bocking, CEO of Coal Australia, for his cameo appearance and thoughtful advice on how to effectively communicate the ongoing value of coal.

Great discussions, valuable connections and plenty to reflect on - we look forward to the next one.

It was great to be in the room at yesterday's Bown Basin Mining Club Luncheon, connecting with industry peers and hearing from BMA Head of Operations, Mariette Bylsma, on current QLD BHP operations, conditions affecting the coal industry and share challenges. We thank Mariette for the valuable information and insights shared.
