The UR8 Long is Redefining Reach, Precision, and Performance in Cobots.

Industrial automation is entering a new era with the launch of Universal Robots’ UR8 Long. This collaborative robot pushes boundaries in reach, speed, and precision. Designed to handle the most demanding applications while maintaining a lean footprint, the UR8 Long represents a leap forward for industries looking to improve productivity without compromising flexibility.

Long Reach. Compact Design. No Compromise.
The UR8 Long delivers an impressive 1,750 mm reach paired with an 8 kg payload capacity, all in a lightweight, compact form factor. This balance of strength and agility makes it an ideal solution for welding, pick-and-place operations, quality inspections, and other applications where both reach and precision are critical.

Its advanced joint architecture and accurate torque control enable high-speed, linear motion with exceptional repeatability. Whether integrated into space-constrained work cells or mounted overhead, the UR8 Long ensures smooth trajectories and optimized cycle times.

Raising the Standard for Welding Automation
Fabricators worldwide face increasing pressure to improve throughput while maintaining weld quality. The UR8 Long directly addresses these challenges.

With intuitive programming and seamless lead-to-teach functionality, welding teams experience a faster setup process compared to traditional systems. The result: higher-quality welds, reduced rework, and improved operator engagement. For businesses, this means measurable time and cost savings, along with the ability to attract a new generation of talent eager to work with collaborative technologies.

As Marcus Yakawich, Product Manager at Vectis Automation, put it: “The improved features of the UR8 Long enable expansion into new welding and plasma cutting applications; all without sacrificing safety or man-machine collaboration.”

Perfect for Deep Bin Picking and Material Handling
Beyond welding, the UR8 Long excels in logistics and material handling. Its longer reach and compact wrist design allow it to access deep bin corners with ease—unlocking new efficiencies for industries such as automotive, plastics, and metals.

With cycle times up to 30% faster than earlier cobot models, the UR8 Long enables more picks per bin and uninterrupted workflows, driving higher throughput and lower operational downtime.

Advanced Technology for Smarter Automation
The UR8 Long runs on PolyScope 5 and PolyScope X, UR’s industry-leading software platforms, and integrates seamlessly with MotionPlus for advanced motion control. This technology allows precise coordination with linear axes, rotary positioners, and turntables, ensuring consistent accuracy across complex workflows.

Key innovations include:

Improved freedrive capabilities for effortless manual guidance and teaching.
30% lighter mass compared to UR20, making it ideal for gantry and overhead mounting.
Coordinated multi-axis motion for complex weldments and synchronized tasks.

Designed to Empower Every Business
Universal Robots has already deployed over 100,000 collaborative robots worldwide, and the UR8 Long continues that legacy with unmatched versatility. From small manufacturers to large-scale operations, this cobot makes advanced automation more accessible than ever.

As Jean Pierre Hathout, President of Universal Robots, noted: “The UR8 Long is designed to help people and businesses work faster, more safely, and with less physical effort. Its longer reach means it can cover more space, while its advanced features open new ways to automate work that used to be done by hand.”

Available Now
The UR8 Long is available for order today, with shipping beginning in October. For businesses ready to expand automation capabilities without sacrificing safety, flexibility, or efficiency, the UR8 Long delivers a future-proof solution.

Robotic Plasma Cutting is Powering our Industrial Future https://industrial-robotics.com.au/product/plasma-cutting-package/

In the tough world of modern manufacturing, businesses need tools that help them work faster and smarter. That’s why more Australian businesses are turning to robotic plasma cutting. This proven technology is being upgraded to transform how we cut, shape, and fabricate metal across industries.

Plasma cutting is a high-precision technique for slicing through electrically conductive metals like steel, aluminium, and copper. Using a high-velocity stream of ionised gas (plasma), it melts the metal and blasts the molten material away, delivering clean, accurate cuts – fast.

This makes plasma cutting the method of choice for applications demanding speed, consistency, and minimal waste, especially in:

✅ Manufacturing & Fabrication
✅ Construction & Structural Steel
✅ Automotive & Transport Equipment
✅ Mining & Agriculture Machinery
✅ Shipbuilding & Heavy Industry

According to IBISWorld, Australia’s metal fabrication industry is valued at over $17 billion AUD, and automated plasma cutting systems are playing an increasing role in delivering scalable, high-throughput results for local manufacturers.

Over 70% of mid-sized fabrication shops in Australia use plasma cutting systems as part of their metal processing workflow

Plasma cutting delivers cutting speeds 5x faster than oxy-fuel cutting for thinner materials (
