🌱 In June, we marked Environment Month by challenging our teams to share practical ideas that improve sustainability across our projects and offices.

Congratulations to our NSW Infrastructure team working at Sydney Olympic Park, winners of the Environment Month Sustainability Challenge. Their innovative ideas included the reuse of surplus materials between projects, repurposing construction water for dust suppression, and solar-powered lighting around site compounds.

Thank you to everyone who took part. Every idea and action, big or small, helps deliver better environmental outcomes and supports our commitment to building better communities.

We were proud to welcome the Western Sydney University (WSU) Solar Car Team to the Mardi Water Treatment Plant (WTP), where we are delivering a major upgrade for Central Coast Council. The visit formed part of the team's Regional Roadshow, which saw 13 students travel more than 1,240 kilometres from their workshop in Kingswood through Bathurst, Dubbo, Coonabarabran and Scone before arriving at Mardi on the Central Coast and finishing at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The team's UNLIMITED 6.0 is a student-designed and built solar car that competed in the 2025 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. Travelling 3,000 kilometres from Darwin to Adelaide, the team placed 1st among Australian teams and 6th overall, showcasing the innovation, technical expertise and dedication of the students behind the project.

As a proud sponsor of the WSU Solar Car Team, we are committed to supporting the next generation of engineers and innovators. It was a privilege to host the team at the Mardi WTP and celebrate the passion, ingenuity and collaboration that will help shape a more sustainable future.

Construction is underway to replace two ageing regulators along Billabong Creek at Hartwood and Wanganella and build two new regulators at Wanganella Swamp, with our team proudly delivering the works in partnership with the NSW Government. The works are part of the Yanco Creek Modernisation Project, which is being delivered under the NSW Government’s Sustainable Diversion Limit Adjustment Mechanism (SDLAM) Acceleration Program. Fully funded by the Australian Government, the SDLAM Acceleration Program supports improved water management and sustainable outcomes across the Murrumbidgee and Murray regions of southern NSW.

Abergeldie is delivering three major works packages including:

▪️Constructing new regulator assets at Wanganella Swamp to meet inundation targets, including the delivery of two new regulators on Eight Mile Creek (the Wanganella Swamp Northern and Southern Regulators).
▪️Hartwood Regulator and Wanganella Regulator: Construction of two large instream regulators on Billabong Creek, located immediately downstream of the existing Hartwood Regulator near Conargo and the Wanganella Regulator near Wanganella. These structures will each feature automated lay flat gates and a vertical slot fishway to improve flow control, water management and ecological outcomes.

Our team was proud to attend the WaterAid Queensland Gala Ball on Friday evening, joining industry peers for a fantastic evening celebrating the power of coming together for a shared purpose.

As a long-standing supporter and sponsor of the gala ball events since their inception, we're proud to help support WaterAid Australia's important work to provide access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene for communities around the world. This year's event raised an incredible $330,000.

This week, we were honoured to join our client Watercare, project partners, mana whenua, government representatives and stakeholders to mark the completion of the Central Interceptor. The events included a celebration and Final Blessing, featuring the ceremonial handover of the manea stone from the Ghella Abergeldie Joint Venture (GAJV) to Watercare, symbolising the project's transition from construction to legacy.

Delivered by the Ghella Abergeldie Joint Venture (GAJV) for Watercare, the Central Interceptor involved the construction of a 16.2-kilometre, 4.5-metre diameter wastewater tunnel stretching from Herne Bay to the Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant, reaching depths of up to 110 metres beneath Auckland and passing under the Manukau Harbour. The project also delivered major upgrades to Auckland's wastewater network, including 100 network sewer work packages, a new pump station and rising main system to support network integration and transfer to the Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant, as well as significant upgrades at the treatment plant itself.

Now complete, the Central Interceptor will significantly reduce wet weather overflows into Auckland's streams, harbours and beaches, improving the health of local waterways while supporting the city's future growth. Underpinning this outcome has been a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainability, innovation and positive social impact. The project also created opportunities for local employment and training, strengthened community partnerships and delivered a legacy for Auckland, its community and future generations.

We are incredibly proud of the role our people played in delivering this landmark project and thank everyone who contributed to making it a reality.

We’re delighted to welcome John Vida to the Abergeldie family as General Manager, Engineering.

John brings extensive experience across the construction industry, having held senior leadership, commercial and operational roles. He has led the successful delivery of major infrastructure projects in Australia and internationally.

As General Manager, Engineering, John will lead and strengthen our engineering function to support the growing market demand for Design and Construct projects. He is passionate about building engineering systems and processes and will strengthen our engineering capability through continuous improvement, supporting the delivery of high-quality projects for our clients and the wider community.

Last month, we recognised Environment Month across our sites and offices, with teams taking practical action and sharing sustainability initiatives.

At the Castle Hill Water Resource Recovery Facility Compliance Project, delivered for Sydney Water, that focus is already taking shape, with rehabilitation works in full swing. In collaboration with Blue Tongue Eco-Systems, more than 1,000 plants have been established across the surrounding area. The species are native to the Hills Shire District and grown from seeds collected from the surrounding bushland, helping the area naturally replenish and blend back in over time.

On the construction front, mechanical works are now complete, with electrical works progressing well and roadworks underway. The team has also commenced commissioning, progressively cutting over to the new process systems.

A proud night for our water team at the CCF NSW Earth Awards 2026, taking home the win in the $2M to $5M Project Value category for the Warragamba Radial Gates Control Measures project.

Engaged by WaterNSW, we delivered critical upgrades to the radial gate systems at Warragamba Dam. Works included upgrades to high park brakes, renewal of hydraulic brake systems, replacement of motor brake assemblies, and reengineering of anti-condensation heater controls.

Delivered within a highly constrained live dam environment, works were carried out above the spillway and over Lake Burragorang within Sydney’s drinking water catchment and at a site of recognised heritage significance. Working within live operations and managing spill events required low-impact work methods, stringent environmental controls and a disciplined, gate-by-gate delivery approach.

Completed in December 2025, the project has strengthened reliability, maintainability and flood resilience for one of Australia’s most critical water assets.

Additionally, we were also very proud to have the Sandstone Pedestrian Tunnel named a Finalist in the $5M to $10M Project Value category. The works created a vital connection between two heritage-listed buildings beneath Sydney's CBD while maintaining operations within the hotel above.

Together, these projects demonstrate the breadth of our capability and the expertise our teams bring to delivering complex infrastructure.

We’re pleased to announce our new partnership with Beyond Blue, in line with our commitment to wellness – one of four key pillars guiding our sustainability strategy, focused on promoting positive mental health in construction and supporting health research and care.

Through this three-year partnership, we will contribute $150,000 to Beyond Blue’s 24/7 Support Service, helping 2,200 Australians access mental health support when they need it most.

To mark the beginning, a mental health awareness session was held with our team at Sydney Olympic Park, where Beyond Blue volunteer Gavin Wellington shared his lived experience and practical guidance on accessing support.
