Heritage buildings are beautiful… and rarely straightforward.

One missing as-built. One “that wall is probably straight.” One ceiling void you can't access. And suddenly your restoration turns into redesigns, variations, and extra site visits.

That's why we love 3D laser scanning for heritage: it captures the building as it truly is - intricate details, structure, and services - so you can design with confidence and protect what matters.

In our Kent Street project, we scanned to create a high-detail digital record that supports:
• accurate floor plans + elevations
• restoration / maintenance planning
• coordination around existing structure + MEP
• minimal disruption on site

If you work on heritage, this is the kind of “site truth” that makes everything downstream smoother.

Throwing it back to our Surveying History series... this time, one of Australia's most legendary outback surveyors: Len Beadell.

Before GPS, before satellite maps in your pocket, Beadell was out there running surveys across some of the toughest country on the planet - helping establish key sites for the Woomera rocket-testing range and laying out tracks that opened up huge stretches of remote inland Australia.

He's best known for the Gunbarrel Highway (famously aiming to keep it “straight as a gunbarrel”), and a string of other iconic outback routes that still show up on maps - including roads named after his family like the Connie Sue Highway, Anne Beadell Highway, and the Gary Highway.

What makes his story hit even harder? It wasn't just road-building... it was surveying grit: long distances, harsh conditions, and relying on classic field skills and astronomical observations to get it done. He later captured the adventures in books that helped cement his status as a true bush character (and a seriously good storyteller).

Six months ago we made our first donation to the Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation. Today we went back with our second.

$13,000 so far – supporting paediatric research, specialist equipment, music and art therapy, and upgraded facilities across the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network.

This partnership is just getting started ❤️

Happy Global Surveyors Day tomorrow! When an architect shows off a stunning new building, there's a quiet hero behind the spotlight – the surveyor who mapped the way.

Surveyors work peer-to-peer with architects, designers and builders to ensure no surprises on site: we set out the proposed foundation outline, verify that designs fit the land, and flag issues before they become expensive mistakes. Ever heard the horror story of a garage built 10cm over the property line and having to be demolished? It happens, and a proper survey could have saved that project.

That's what we do: keep projects on the rails with accuracy and foresight. We use advanced tools (from GPS to 3D scanners) to capture every detail, and navigate the maze of zoning laws and permits so you don't have to. Think of us as the friends who review your plan and gently say, “Are you sure about that slope and boundary?” – saving you from future headaches like drainage issues or boundary disputes.

On Global Surveyors' Day, let's give a nod to our behind-the-scenes experts. To our fellow surveyors, you are the guardians of accuracy and the unsung foundation of every successful project. Cheers to us on our day!

Design is getting faster, smarter and more complex - and the tools we rely on need to keep up. One of the biggest shifts we're seeing across the industry? Designers moving from traditional surveys to full 3D surveys.

Here's why they're becoming a must-have on residential, commercial, heritage and renovation projects:

𝟭️⃣ 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀
3D surveys capture façades, elevations, structures, services and terrain in rich spatial detail. 𝘽𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙭𝙩 = 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨.

𝟮️⃣ 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿
Every measurement you might need later is already captured.
No more back-and-forth clarifications or return site visits slowing down momentum.

𝟯️⃣ 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆
Roof overhangs, neighbouring windows, slope transitions, irregular geometry... 3D surveys reveal issues before they turn into redesigns or variation fees.

𝟰️⃣ 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 “𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝘁” 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆
Showing a real-world 3D model of the site helps clients visualise instantly, reducing confusion and speeding up approvals.

𝟱️⃣ 𝗜𝘁 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗽𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄
Revit, ArchiCAD, SketchUp, Rhino - the output slots neatly into your existing modelling environment.

𝟲️⃣ 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 = 𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸
A clearer picture of the site leads to stronger documentation, fewer RFIs and fewer surprises during certification and construction.

𝟳️⃣ 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀
Renovations, extensions, heritage refurbishments, sloping sites, tight boundaries, tricky access - 3D surveys simplify everything.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆
3D surveys don't just replace traditional surveys, they upgrade the entire design process. 𝙈𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙮. 𝙈𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙮. 𝙈𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹 & 𝗕𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁Whether you're planning a renovation, extensi...

Whether you're planning a renovation, extension, or a new build - starting with a 𝘋𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘭 & 𝘉𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘐𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘚𝘶𝘳𝘷𝘦𝘺 can give you clarity to build with certainty.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿?
Accurate mapping of natural land levels and contours, essential for correct site design.
Clear identification of property boundaries, existing structures, neighbouring properties, easements, and visible services or site constraints.
A detailed plan (in DWG & PDF formats)

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘁:
It helps you avoid costly mistakes - like designing over boundaries or overlooking encumbrances.
It supports precise design and construction with verified, professional data.
It lays the foundation for smoother council approvals and reduces risk of delays or legal issues.

Our team was out running our instruments, ensuring they were calibrated to fixed control markers and giving us confidence in the levels and coordinates used for design and construction.

When the baseline is right, everything built on top of it is right: site levels, boundaries, set-outs, the lot. Small task on site, big impact on project accuracy.
