Standardisation is the Basis for Innovation

Standardisation rarely gets the spotlight, but it underpins every meaningful advancement in industrial automation.

From PROFIBUS through to modern PROFINET architectures, it is common rules and interoperable frameworks that allow complex, multi-vendor systems to function as one.

Without this foundation, technologies such as Digital Twins, IIoT, and cloud-integrated operations simply would not scale.

The Road to Standardisation
Developing standards, guidelines, and test cases requires patience and open discourse. It involves many stakeholders contributing their expertise to ensure that technology trends and user requirements are met.

This rigorous process leads to robust solutions like the new PROFINET specification V2.5, which introduces:
▪️ Enhanced Security Features: Scalable security that addresses modern protection requirements.
▪️ Flexible Transport Channels: Allowing for better data flow.
▪️ Scalable Networking: Seamless connectivity from the sensor to the cloud.

Cybersecurity Front and Centre
PROFINET V2.5 embeds Security on Board — a native, scalable security model designed to establish trust across devices, reduce integration complexity, and ensure resilient communication across the network.

This is not an add-on. It is security by design, built into the standard itself.

Standardisation is not just technical alignment. It is the framework that enables innovation to scale, integrate, and deliver measurable value.

Lest We Forget.

On behalf of the PROFIBUS & PROFINET Association of Australia, we acknowledge the service and sacrifice of the ANZACs, and all those who have served Australia and New Zealand.

We recognise that many within our industrial community have served, or have close connections to those who have. Today is a time to pause and reflect on their contribution, and the values of resilience, discipline, and mateship that continue to endure.

We pay our respects to all who have served, and to those who continue to serve.
Lest we forget.

Master Your Network: Certified PROFIBUS Training in Sydney (Subject to Demand)

Undiagnosed network faults remain one of the most common causes of unplanned downtime. Effective troubleshooting starts with correct installation practices and the ability to interpret network behaviour.

The Certified PROFIBUS Installer (CPBI) course provides practical, hands-on training focused on fault prevention, diagnostics, and long term network reliability.

We are planning an upcoming 2-day sessions in Sydney, NSW, with dates to be confirmed based on demand. Each class will run with limited capacity to ensure quality, hands-on learning.

What the course covers:
• Correct cabling, grounding, and shielding techniques aligned to best practice
• Use of diagnostic tools to identify faults at the physical and communication layers
• Fault finding methodologies to reduce time to resolution
• Installation standards to improve long term network stability

Participants will complete the internationally recognised CPBI certification.
