This new specification brings a significant improvement that creates a more modern, flexible, and secure networking environment, while still ensuring that older systems can work without any issues.

What makes PROFINET V2.5 a game-changer?
▪Enhanced Security Inside: Security Class 1 is now an integral, mandatory part of the specification, establishing a "Secure Cell" as the foundation for communication.

Industrial automation is at a turning point. Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) is a game-changer, delivering full Ethernet communication over just two wires. By establishing a unified global standard, SPE allows machine builders to develop future-proof, internationally interoperable systems without proprietary silos or fragmented certifications. It is the foundation of a globally synchronised movement.

The Architecture of Compatibility: Key Standards
A global, interconnected ecosystem ensures seamless plug-and-play compatibility across these key standards:

▪IEC TS 63444 (Data Frame Foundation): Enables different protocols (including PROFINET) to communicate via a common SPE physical layer.
▪IEC 63171-7 ED2 (Connector Standard): Specifies M12 hybrid connectors for combined data and power, alongside M8/M12 metric and IP20 systems for universal hardware compatibility.
