OCIUS is home to many passionate sailors, and today we’re proud to share that Cole Tapper and George Richardson have just won the World Match Racing Tour’s Congressional Cup in Long Beach, California - an incredible achievement.

The Congressional Cup is the longest‑running match racing event in the world, a prestigious World Sailing Grade 1 regatta with a winners list that includes legends like America’s Cup champions Dennis Conner and New Zealand’s Dean Barker.

Cole (skipper) and George (main trimmer) delivered a phenomenal performance, coming back from 0–2 down in a first‑to‑3 semi-final to defeat the current world number one in a nail‑biting 3–2 finish. They then carried that momentum into the final, taking down last year’s champion and reigning Crimson Blazer holder, Eric Monnin, to claim their first Congressional Cup title.

It was a pleasure to welcome to Ocius, US Navy CAPT Josh Fagan and Lee Brayman from the US Commercial Service to discuss persistent, wide area maritime domain awareness and the role of uncrewed systems in supporting it.

An excellent opportunity to share insights on our work with both the Royal Australian Navy and the US Navy, and to explore how collaboration can continue to strengthen maritime security outcomes across the region.

Ocius is a proud supporter of Saltwater Veterans and with our help they were able to purchase this Elliot 7 yacht and bring her back to life. It was a year in the making with a major refit and restoration. She’s now looking like a new boat, and more importantly sailing like one. Last weekend racing in the Helly Hansens Women’s Challenge, rolling straight into the ADF Sailing championships. Incredible effort by an outstanding crew. ⛵👏

Ocius is extremely proud to announce that the Australian Government has established a $176 million Program of Record to acquire a fleet of our locally-designed and manufactured Bluebottle uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) for the Royal Australian Navy.

Announced in Canberra earlier today by Minister for Defence Industry, The Hon. Pat Conroy MP and Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Mark Hammond AO, this five-year contract will deliver one of the world’s largest fleets of uncrewed surface vessels, strengthening Australia’s maritime surveillance and undersea warfare capabilities.

“With this world-leading technology, we are able to increase surveillance of Australia’s northern approaches and respond to increasing maritime threats,” said Minister Conroy.

The investment builds on the 15 Bluebottles already in service with the Navy, providing maritime surveillance across Australia’s northern approaches.

The discussions explored how sustainable technologies like Ocius’ Bluebottle USV are delivering real operational advantages today, the importance of building a resilient national security ecosystem, and what the next horizon looks like for autonomous and unmanned systems. It was encouraging to see strong alignment across industry and Defence on the role uncrewed, robotic and sustainable platforms will play in delivering capability to the Royal Australian Navy.

Satellites of the Sea just got diesel powered!

We're delighted to announce we’ve just christened the first-of-its-kind Bluebottle Hybrid, expanding operational reach for Defence and partners worldwide. 🌊⚓

The new Bluebottle Hybrid combines renewable energy sources, solar, wind, and wave, with a compact diesel generator and 400l of diesel, delivering unmatched endurance and flexibility. This innovation enables operations in challenging regions and climates, including high latitudes in winter where sunlight is scarce.

The Bluebottle Hybrid configuration fits in same hull as the current 24-foot renewable energy powered Bluebottle, enabling hybrid vessels to use the same logistics and trailers but carry both diesel power and our unique keel winch for storing and deploying thin line arrays.

At the official christening, Air Chief Marshal (Retd) Mark Binskin AC highlighted the strategic importance of this capability for navies globally. Two vessels, ‘BINNY’ and ‘BUTCH’, were named in honour of key supporters who have championed Ocius’ journey from prototype to world-class maritime systems.

With this milestone, Ocius continues to design, build, sustain, and operate autonomous maritime systems - Satellites of the Sea - that deliver critical ISR, hydrography, and sonar deployment capabilities.

We were honoured to welcome the Defence and Industry Study Course (DISC) 2025 cohort to Ocius for a tour of our facility!

DISC plays a vital role in strengthening collaboration between Defence and industry, helping to build Australia’s Defence capability and enhance national security. Through site visits and expert-led sessions, participants gain insights into the complex environment where Defence and industry work together to deliver and sustain capability for the ADF.

We’re proud to contribute to this important initiative and look forward to continuing our support for Australia’s Defence ecosystem.
