This Electrical Safety Fortnight (1-15 September), our friends at Powerlink Queensland have released a powerful video showing that you don’t need to make direct contact with powerlines to run into trouble. Simply working nearby overhead powerlines has its own set of risks and it always pays to 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘂𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲.

This means it’s vital to plan ahead if you’re working near overhead powerlines when operating machinery, be sure to follow our safety advice: https://www.ergon.com.au/network/safety/working-near-powerlines

⚠️If your vehicle contacts powerlines, STAY in the cab, CALL 000 and WAIT for help to arrive.

🚫Don’t drive off and leave unreported damage that could lead to fallen powerlines, spark a fire or hurt someone else.

We have crews ready to respond to an outage that’s impacting customers at Cungulla, Cape Cleveland and surrounds as soon as it’s safe.
Queensland Fire Department is doing its part to bring a fire under control so our people can do their bit. Indications are we have wires down and potentially damage to poles, but we won’t know the full extent of damage until we can get into the impacted area.

We're continuing work on a major upgrade at the Doomadgee power station as part of the new solar farm integration.

For safety reasons, there will be brief power outages for some customers while work is in progress this month.

Unsuitable plants near lines can be a problem, and bamboo is one of the worst offenders.
Aside from growing at incredible speed, it can actually conduct electricity – we’ve had reports of people receiving electric shocks after bamboo came into contact with live mains 🤯

Bamboo and other fast-growing plants cause significant power outages each year, and pose serious safety risks.

And aside from the danger, there's the inconvenience factor: because it also means that thousands of customers can lose power because of bamboo contacting lines.

🦸⚡💪 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗚𝗢!
Our landmark Safety Heroes program kicks off in earnest today, with our annual round of school visits which recruit Qld primary schoolers into an army of smart, savvy safety ambassadors and hazard spotters.

Nearly every primary school in the state has registered for Safety Heroes which teaches kids about staying safe around electricity. Treasurer David Janetzki officially launched the 2026 program at Toowoomba East Primary School, where our troops walked students through spotting deadly hazards, staying well clear, and reporting dangers.

An incredible 99% of Qld’s prep-year 6 schools have registered for this year’s program – we’re so hyped to spread the Safety Heroes message to thousands of kids throughout Electrical Safety Fortnight (August 31-September 13)…let’s GO! 👏👏

𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗡𝗔 𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗧𝗛 𝗨𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗔𝗜𝗥𝗦: Our eagle-eyed crews have spotted a damaged wire on the Tinana South network across the Bruce Highway which needs urgent attention. We’ll be doing repairs 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟵, which will mean interrupting power for around 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟴.𝟯𝟬𝗮𝗺.

This will affect 𝟮𝟰𝟬 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗙𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱, and extends across the Maryborough River in 𝗬𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗿. Our troops from Maryborough and Hervey Bay will be working on site near the Bruce Highway near the Tinana BP. There won’t be any traffic interruptions, but please slow down and take care if you’re driving in the area Saturday morning. All going well, we’re hoping to have the lights back on to everyone by early afternoon.

🛠️DOOMADGEE NETWORK REPAIRS
Our crews have restored power to as many customers as possible after damaged equipment caused an outage at Doomadgee.

34 properties are unable to be safely reconnected until network repairs are completed tomorrow.

Customers whose power has been restored will have another outage while work is in progress to replace a pole tomorrow.

We need to interrupt power to around 150 Blackbutt customers later in the week while we upgrade a section of the network to three-phase supply.

Local crews will be connecting power to new housing estates, and to do this safely, we’ve scheduled two essential outages: this 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 (outage number 26WB7164) and this 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆 (26WB7165), 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟴.𝟯𝟬𝗮𝗺. We’re looking to have power back on by 2.30pm on each of these days. The work will affect premises in Crumpton Drive, Myrtle, Enid, Lorna, Anita and Gillian courts, and Bowmans Road – customers who will be affected by this work will have received notifications in the mail.

Regional, rural and remote Queensland needs future tradies who understand the challenges and rewards that come from living and working outside of major cities.

Our teams have spoken with hundreds – maybe even thousands - of students and young people at careers fairs across the Sunshine State this year, and the latest stop was at AFL Cape York House Foundation in Cairns. Karina, Aron, Sarah and Thomas repped Ergon Energy Network at the event, showcasing energy careers, apprenticeships and cadetships to around 50 Year 9-10 students and their parents.

It's great to see the high level of interest from these potential future tradies, many of whom hail from some of the Far North’s most remote corners, where we’re always looking for more awesome talent. Thanks for having us! 🙏

We've had to reschedule some critical testing and commissioning work, which will pave the way for the new microgrid at Mossman Gorge.

This means the outages planned for tomorrow (25 August) and Wednesday (26 August) have been postponed.

The outages, which will affect the whole community, are now planned for Tuesday 1 September and Wednesday 2 September.

We appreciate everyone’s patience while work is in progress to improve the reliability of the community’s power supply.
