Our new Water Pump Station off Wangoom Road, Warrnambool is taking shape.

We’re excited to see construction of the new 1.5 million litre concrete water storage tank nearing completion and the fit-out of the pump station underway.

Once finished, the tank and pump station will be an important part of the city's water network. It will provide sufficient pressure for water from our Warrnambool Water Treatment Plant in Grieve Street to support existing and proposed housing estates near the north end of Aberline Road.

Traffic management will remain in place while work continues over the coming months. So please take care when travelling through the area.

Meet Annie!

She’s been part of Wannon Water for over 13 years, beginning in Assets Administration before moving to our Community Engagement Team, and now working as our Emergency Management & Resilience Officer.

Annie’s role is all about keeping everyone safe. She prepares for and helps reduce potential risks.

Whether it’s bushfires, storm damage or burst water mains, she ensures there’s a plan to support our customers and employees as quickly as possible during an emergency.

“When things go wrong, it’s amazing to see how skilled and committed our people are. Everyone wants the best for our customers and pulls together to sort things out. My role is to make their work a little easier and support them in doing what they do best.”

Thanks to the Portland community for their patience as we recently changed our water disinfection system over from chloramine to free chlorine.

While some people may still be noticing a stronger chlorine taste or smell, this will dissipate as the network stabilises over the next few weeks.

We know that some of our projects can cause disruption and be frustrating and inconvenient for those impacted and we’re sorry. In this case, we achieved our goal of maintaining the long-term safety and quality of the drinking water supply.

It’s also important to note that this work is separate to our Quality Water for Wannon Program which aims to improve the quality and taste of Portland’s water. That multi-million dollar project involves the construction of a new reverse osmosis water treatment plant to remove the naturally occurring mineral salts from the groundwater supply.

Following extensive community engagement last year, we’re aiming to have a design and construct major works contract in place for the new treatment plant by early 2027.

Help us find your meter by keeping the area clear of bushes, weeds, and excess soil. We need to access your meter to get an accurate reading of your water use.

Meters are usually near the front boundary of your property, but sometimes this isn't the case. If there’s a dog on your property, our team needs to be comfortable that it’s suitably restrained.

If we can't access your meter, we'll leave a card in your letterbox asking you to read the meter yourself and send us the results. If that’s not possible, you’ll receive a bill based on an estimated reading.

A big shout-out to these customers who made our job easier!
