In their recent paper, Esfandiar et al. investigated the effect of ion implantation on bulk and exfoliated CIS-processed (crystal ion slicing) flakes of BaTiO3. The results suggest that optimized CIS-processing can yield optically non-linear and electro-optically active films, suitable for integrated photonics, with an accessible thickness range that surpasses what is achievable with epitaxial growth methods.
The BudgetSensors Tap300Al-G is used for topographic characterization of the samples via AFM.

Utilizing atmospheric CO2 as a chemical feedstock is an important task in sustainability research. In this recent publication Lee et al. demonstrate Cu2O/Cu chiral catalysts for selective solar-assisted CO2-to-CO electroreduction. Chirality in the catalysts is induced by the use of intermediate organic molecules with extended chains in the chiral ligand complex to preserve chirality during hydrothermal synthesis.
The preservation of chiral properties under electrochemical conditions is achieved with mCP-AFM, using a Multi75M-G magnetic AFM probe.

AFM and scanning probe microscopy in general have become ubiquitous since their discovery. However, analyzing and acquiring data frequently involves operator judgement in selecting and focusing on regions. In this recent publication, Sung et al. demonstrate an autonomous, AI-based framework for microstructural and electrical analysis of 2D materials.
Our Multi75E-G tips, (a.k.a. ElectriMulti75) were used in the characterization experiments during development of the AI approach.

In a recent study, Frenzel et al. demonstrated optimized polydopamine coatings for polyethylene fibers in cementitious materials. Short fibers have been demonstrated as an effective means of reinforcing this class of materials previously, when the correct adhesion between the fiber and the surrounding matrix is achieved.
Our Multi75Al-G probe has been used to image the polydopamine coating morphology – a thin film with nanoscale clusters on top.

Check out this work by Jinhyoung Lee et al. - https://advanced.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/advs.202510961?af=R ! The paper shows a monolithically integrated synaptic memory in a van der Waals heterostructure. These devices demonstrate a way to overcome current device integration challenges in resistive random-access memory (ReRAM). This has potential wider implications for recent AI-related technologies, such as large-language models and the Internet-of-Things.
The paper has spatially resolved the switching dynamics using the BudgetSensors

Metallocenes, or MXenes, are a promising class of materials, with many tunable properties and metallic conductivity. An ongoing research effort is increasing their stability with respect to oxidative degradation. In a recent publication in PNAS, Fang et al. demonstrated the relevance of confined water molecules in the stability and degradation of a Ti3C2TX metallocene.
In the study it was observed that Ti3C2TX monoflakes showed thermal stability up to 600 ℃, while multiflakes were stable up to 600 ℃. DFT calculations suggested this is due to a higher removal energy associated with confined water, which causes it to persist at higher temperatures, leading to oxidation. Vacuum annealing at 600 ℃ was then shown to improve stability in multiflakes.
Crucial to the above studies was AFM topography. BudgetSensors Tap300Al-G (https://www.budgetsensors.com/tapping-mode-afm-probe-aluminum-tap300al) was used for topographic imaging and BudgetSensors SHR150 was used for high-resolution imaging (https://www.budgetsensors.com/soft-tapping-mode-afm-probe-high-resolution-sharp-shr150).
