❓❓❓What if one of the biggest myths about solar... was completely backwards?❓❓❓

The reality is that while solar panels do require energy and materials to manufacture, they typically produce far more clean electricity over their lifetime than was used to make them. Most modern solar panels generate enough clean energy to offset their manufacturing footprint within just a few years, then continue producing emissions-free electricity for decades.

Today's solar panels are also built to last, with 30-year warranties and many continuing to generate power well beyond that. As the industry grows, recycling programs are expanding too, allowing valuable materials like glass, aluminum, silicon, and copper to be recovered and reused.

This is one of the biggest misconceptions about solar.

Solar panels don't run on heat—they run on sunlight. In fact, they actually perform more efficiently when they're cooler!

That's one of the reasons Vancouver Island is an excellent place for solar. We enjoy long summer days, plenty of sunshine, and a cooler coastal climate that helps panels perform at their best.

Ever wondered why solar panels are almost always installed with a gap between them and the roof? That airflow helps keep them cool, improving their performance.

We're so excited to see the Small Planet Cleanup – Annual Contest featured in today's print edition of the Campbell River Mirror! 🥳

This year's contest was our biggest yet, with an incredible 1,511 volunteers coming together to remove more than 40,000 kg of litter from our beaches, forests, roadsides, parks, trails, and neighbourhoods. Together, we awarded $11,685 in cash and prizes to recognize the amazing efforts of our local cleanup champions.

None of this would have been possible without our incredible volunteers, generous sponsors, prize donors, schools, businesses, community groups, and everyone who grabbed a bag and made a difference. Thank you for believing in this vision and helping make Vancouver Island a cleaner, healthier place for all.

A huge thank you as well to the Campbell River Mirror for helping share this story and shine a spotlight on the power of community action. ❤️
