Congratulations to the UNB students who competed at the Canadian Engineering Competition this spring!

Two of our teams brought home third place finishes, and all four teams showcased their problem solving skills and talent on the national stage.

Communications - 3rd Place
Ahmed Menesi, whose research and presentation, “Automation & Robotics for Canada’s Nuclear Future,” provided an overview of health physics and mechatronic applications in the nuclear sector. It focused on how automation, robotics, digital twins, and AI can support Canada’s nuclear industry by improving worker safety, reducing radiation exposure, increasing efficiency, lowering maintenance costs, and helping modernize operations and refurbishment projects.

Re-Engineering - 3rd Place
Ethan Crowley and Jackson McElman's project tackled the challenge of re-engineering AI data centers to be scalable enough to support AGI. This included increasing modularity, improving cooling efficiency, developing isolated power networks, and reducing environmental impact. Their second portion focused on implementing a backup diesel generator power system with pollution control and modeling to reduce harmful emissions.

Junior Design - Competitors
Nick Bernhardt, Millie Nedd, Sara Nathan, and Petronella McCallum were tasked with designing a train cart to retrieve and sort marbles representing minerals, while keeping them contained even when the cart turned upside down. Their solution featured a one way valve for retrieval and a side hatch to deposit marbles into a sorting apparatus.

Junior Design - Competitors
Lars Oehler, Onin Casey-Tanner, and Biswajyoti Parial were given a track and two train cars and were tasked with collecting, containing, delivering, and sorting marbles in place of ore. Their team designed a suspended bucket capable of flipping 360 degrees, paired with a ramp that sorted marbles by size.

We are incredibly proud of all four teams for competing at the national level and representing UNB Engineering with excellence. Well done!

Happy Earth Day!

Today we take a moment to appreciate the planet we call home and reflect on how we can better it. As future engineers, sustainability is at the core of how we should be thinking about the problems we solve and the solutions we build. Please take some time to consider how you can minimize waste, reduce consumption and conserve resources.

Let's make sure our commitment to the planet extends beyond today and into every decision we make.

Junior and Senior Design, Programming, Re-Engineering, Engineering Consulting, Parliamentary Debate, Engineering Communications, Innovative Design, Finance, Logistics, Sponsorship, Social Events, Promotions, and Branding & Merch.

As National Engineering Month is underway, we’re excited to be collaborating with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick to host an Engineering themed trivia night!

Join us on Tuesday, March 31st at 7 PM at the Cellar Pub for a night of networking, competition, and fun. APEGNB will be bringing prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, along with plenty of challenging and engaging questions.

This is our final trivia event of the academic year, so don’t miss out!

Please note: you must be 19 or older to enter.
