Projects don't always justify purchasing specialized equipment or hiring for a temporary increase in workload, and Eagle can provide the missing collection or processing capacity to support your team's needs. Eagle works with architecture, engineering, and consulting firms on individual project components or larger field programs. Our role can include LiDAR and imagery collection, GIS development, feature extraction, CAD deliverables, data processing, and quality control.

You never quite know what you’ll come across during fieldwork in northern Alberta!

A few weeks ago, our crew was flying a drone data capture mission along a remote corridor when they spotted a bear not far from where they were based. Since the drone was already in the air, they took a quick look around to see which way their unexpected neighbour was heading.

Thankfully, the bear wandered off in the opposite direction, and the crew carried on with the planned route. It was a short detour from corridor mapping and probably one of the more memorable moments from that trip.

Just another day in the field, with one unofficial wildlife check added to the flight log.

Early estimates for fiber projects are often based on limited information. That can make budgeting difficult, especially when a route includes remote locations, crossings or other challenging build conditions.

Before another line is attached to a utility pole, the existing configuration needs to be understood.

This animation shows the information that can be developed from a LiDAR point cloud of an aerial telecom corridor. Attachment locations, line heights, span geometry, anchor positions, and other relevant measurements can be extracted from the captured conditions and prepared for engineering review
Those measurements help inform loading calculations and make-ready assessments. They give the project team a clearer picture of the pole’s current configuration before proposed equipment or new attachments are considered.

The result is reliable field information that can move directly into the next stage of telecom design.

The City of Prince George recently invited CKPG News out to learn more about the road-condition work that Eagle is completing across the community and to show residents what our equipment is collecting.

Eagle's mobile mapping team is collecting and analyzing approximately 600 route kms of roadway throughout Prince George. The data we collect will help City staff identify road cracking, rutting, potholes, and other pavement concerns, and use that info to understand and decide which roads need routine maintenance and which may require more extensive or urgent repair work.

The project also creates a detailed 3D record of the roadway and surrounding infrastructure. From the same collection, City staff can review traffic signs, lane markings, slopes, drainage features, and other municipal assets without having to return to each location.

Thank you to the City of Prince George and CKPG News for helping residents understand the work underway, and to Eagle's field team, Sheldon Hay and Oliver Ebbett, for explaining what happens in the field and once the data is brought back for processing.

We're proud to work with the City of Prince George to complete their paved road condition assessment using our advanced mobile LiDAR mapping technology!

Imagine getting this call after the field crew has already moved on to another project.

“We need a closer look at one of the utility poles along the corridor. Can you tell us which lines are attached, how they connect with the surrounding network, and what is happening at street level?”

Normally, a question like that could mean arranging another site visit, adding extra costs to a project. Someone would need to return to the busy roadway, locate the correct pole, collect the missing information, and send it back to the designer.

In this case, our answer would be much simpler: “No problem. Let me pull that up.”

The corridor was already available on screen. The designer could revisit the location digitally, view the pole in context, follow the overhead lines, and examine the surrounding features. The information needed to answer the question was part of one connected record, so the work could continue without sending a crew back into traffic.

That is the value behind this image. It gives the project team a way to return to the corridor and examine the area of interest after the collection team has moved on.

Documenting a bridge requires access to surfaces, elevations, and structural details that can be difficult to measure safely using traditional data collection methods.

LiDAR can capture detailed three-dimensional geometry from suitable locations around the structure, reducing the time crews need to spend in traffic, at height, or near difficult terrain. The resulting point cloud provides a measurable record that can support dimensional review, condition documentation, rehabilitation planning, and comparisons between collections completed at different times.

Reality capture doesn't replace the judgement of a qualified bridge engineer or the inspections required by the asset owner. However, it does give those teams detailed spatial information to help them review the structure, plan further investigation, and document observed change. The collection plan still needs to account for access, sightlines, required accuracy, deliverables, and the parts of the bridge that must be captured.
