Standing with Prince George 💙
The news that Canfor is closing the Northwood Pulp Mill hit hard this week. For those of us who have been part of this community for a long time, it's more than a headline. It's personal.
Corestock Industrial Supply opened its doors nearly three decades ago, and our early success was built in large part on the strength of the forestry industry. Mills like Northwood were more than customers, they were the backbone of this region's economy, and ours along with it. We have since diversified across many industries, but our roots remain firmly in forestry, and we haven't forgotten that.
A closure of this scale doesn't only affect the 300 employees who worked there, though that impact alone is significant. It extends to the trucking companies who moved product in and out of that site every day. The shops that serviced those trucks. The contractors who supported specialty work and turnarounds. The suppliers who kept all of those businesses running. It reaches into local spending, minor sports sponsorships, and the small businesses that make up this community. This is a ripple effect that touches nearly everyone here in some way.
Prince George has faced difficult news in the forestry sector before, and each time, it's the strength of our people that carries us through. Northwood has long been a landmark in this city, and seeing it close is a loss felt well beyond its gates.
To the Northwood employees, the contractors, the suppliers, and the families now facing uncertainty, please know that you are not alone. Prince George is at its strongest when we support one another, and that is exactly what we intend to do. 🧡
