The year was 1983...

A revolution was underway in Vancouver ... Robert Allan Ltd. designed Charles H Cates II – the 1st Z-Drive tug in Canada. The new design featured a compact one person wheelhouse and a line handling crane that laid the groundwork for 2 person harbour tug operations.

From this beginning approximately 45 Robert Allan Ltd. designed Z-Drive tugs have built in Canada and over 1,200 built in 23 different countries. As a result of this success the company workforce has increased tenfold over the same period.

Robert Allan Ltd. celebrates the imminent delivery of the first of two of Canada's most powerful es**rt and rescue tugs, and world's first purpose-built methanol dual-fuel tugs, to KOTUG Canada. We look forward to watching the vessels sail on the Salish Sea later this year.
