We recently commissioned this dual fuel heating system at one of our local custom home projects for .construction
Even though winter is still a couple seasons away, the heat pump in this dual fuel system is currently providing whole house cooling for the summer months - just like a standard air conditioner. However when the outdoor temps start to drop this fall, the same heat pump will reverse the refrigerant cycle to absorb heat from the air and distribute it through the home (in simplest terms…).
A hot water coil inside the air handler, paired with a high efficiency boiler is also incorporated which can provide efficient back up heating for the entire home in the coldest winter months when heat pump efficiency drops off.
The use of a boiler means we were also able to add some in floor radiant heating as a third back up heat source and some added comfort in the lower floor of this home.
These systems are complex but they carefully designed with proper load calculations, equipment sizing, piping and duct layouts, and high efficiency equipment. At Groundswell Mechanical, we pride ourselves in providing integrated systems that maximize comfort while saving you energy.
