The proposal would require renewable energy developers to contribute to community benefit programs based on the amount of clean electricity generated. Inspired by existing models in Scotland, the initiative reflects a growing international trend toward ensuring local communities share in the economic benefits of renewable energy development.

As countries continue to expand renewable energy capacity, innovative approaches like community benefit funds demonstrate how clean energy projects can support both climate goals and local prosperity.

Here in Oxford County, community involvement has long been a priority through partnerships such as the Oxford Community Energy Co-op.
