Ecuador: Islote Sucre 🇪🇨

Corals need something to hold on to. Literally. At Islote Sucre, parts of the reef have turned into sand, which makes it almost impossible for corals to come back on their own.

🛠️ Together with Andrea and the team at Conmar, we’re building new structures so corals can attach, grow and slowly bring reef life back.

So proud of our rrreefs Philippines team! 🪸👏

At this year’s Philippine Hospitality on Sustainable Tourism (PHILHOST) event, our local Philippines team represented rrreefs as an Advocacy Partner, shared our work in reef regeneration, and connected with people from the hospitality world who are interested in more sustainable coastal tourism.

It was a great moment to bring coral reefs into the room where the future of tourism is being discussed. 🌊 Thank you Tajara Hospitality and Green Viewing for having us!

For Billy Kindly Cutad, the ocean is like paradise. Something you can’t really compare to anything else. 🌊

Billy works for the Local Government Unit (LGU) Maria in Siquijor. He knows that protecting coral reefs also means keeping fish stocks healthy for the future.

In Siquijor, Philippines, the local community already has powerful ways of protecting the sea. For rrreefs, working here means joining forces with the people who know these reefs best and building lasting reef regeneration together.

Philippines: Siquijor 🇪🇨

For many Filipinos, the ocean is food, livelihood, and a safety net when times are difficult. 🌊 For Dr. Aileen P. Maypa, Director at the Institute of Environmental and Marine Sciences, Silliman Univ, it is also a source of oxygen, carbon storage and one of the planet’s most important life-support systems.

That’s why science and community knowledge need to go hand in hand when we regenerate reefs. 🔬🪸
