Japan's Inconsistent Words, Deeds Cannot Allay Int'l Community's Concerns over Its Remilitarization: Spokesperson

BEIJING, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Japan's inconsistent words and deeds cannot allay the international community's concerns over its remilitarization, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular news briefing when answering a relevant question.

Mao said that in recent years, the Japanese government has kept increasing its military expenditure, easing restrictions on export of lethal weapons, taking part in military exercises, advancing the deployment of long-range missiles, building so-called "counterstrike capabilities" that enable active offense, stockpiling large amount of sensitive nuclear materials, pushing for the revision of the pacifist constitution, advocating that Japan should become a "war-capable" nation and constantly breaching the rules of international and domestic laws.

China urges the Japanese side to learn lessons from history, abide by its commitment to peace, and earn trust of its Asian neighbors and the international community with concrete actions, added Mao.

Xi Calls on China, Serbia to Advance Wide-ranging Cooperation

BEIJING, May 25 (Xinhua) -- China and Serbia should better align development strategies, implement the mid-term action plan for Belt and Road cooperation, and advance cooperation in transport and energy infrastructure among others, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Monday.

Xi made the remarks when holding talks with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who is on a state visit to China.

Against the backdrop of a new scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, the two sides should expand cooperation in emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, the digital economy, green energy and advanced manufacturing to foster new growth drivers, he said.

Xi also called on both countries to leverage visa exemption policies, the free trade agreement and direct flights to expand all-round cooperation in culture, education, sports, tourism and sub-national exchanges.

Xi Says China Commends Pakistan for Its Mediating Role

BEIJING, May 25 (Xinhua) -- China and Pakistan should accelerate the building of a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era, and achieve more results in all-weather cooperation between the two countries, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Monday.

Xi made the remarks when meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Beijing. He also urged the two sides to bring more benefits to the people of both countries, contribute to promoting regional peace and stability, and set an example for building a community with a shared future with neighboring countries.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 75 years ago, China and Pakistan have forged an unbreakable traditional friendship, Xi said, noting that the strategic mutual trust and practical cooperation between the two sides have effectively promoted the development of each country.

China has always prioritized the development of China-Pakistan relations in its neighborhood diplomacy no matter how the international situation changes, Xi said.

Xi told Sharif about receiving a letter from Pakistani students at Tianjin University in north China, who pledged to serve as builders of China-Pakistan cooperation, promoters of exchange, and guardians of friendship.

"I feel gratified to see that the cause of bilateral friendship has successors," Xi said.

Stressing that China firmly supports Pakistan in safeguarding its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, Xi said China is ready to maintain high-level exchanges with Pakistan, enhance strategic communication and grasp the correct direction of the development of bilateral ties.

Xi called on both sides to solidly advance the action plan for building a China-Pakistan community with a shared future, coordinate the construction of major landmark projects and "small but beautiful" livelihood initiatives, and deepen all-round cooperation in agriculture, industry, artificial intelligence, talent cultivation and other fields.

Both sides should carry out security cooperation at a higher level and in broader fields to jointly maintain regional peace and stability, Xi said, adding that China commends Pakistan for taking the initiative to play a mediating role in restoring peace in the Middle East.

Both sides should continue to maintain close communication and coordination, jointly oppose unilateralism and Cold War mentality, and work together to promote an equal and orderly multipolar world and an inclusive economic globalization, Xi added.

Sharif said President Xi is a great friend of the Pakistani people, and also a great friend of all peace-loving people in the world.

Under the strong leadership of President Xi, China's economy has achieved remarkable accomplishments that have attracted worldwide attention, providing a solid guarantee for maintaining world peace and building a multipolar world, Sharif said.

He said Pakistan firmly adheres to the one-China principle, steadfastly supports China's position on all issues concerning its core interests, and will always be a good friend and partner of China.

Pakistan stands ready to learn from China's experience in governance, deepen cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, promote the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and continuously advance Pakistan-China relations to bring benefits to the two peoples, he added.

Sharif said that Pakistan appreciated China's support for Pakistan in mediating the U.S.-Iran negotiations, noting that President Xi's four propositions on the Middle East situation provide a guiding framework for peace in the region.

Pakistan is willing to closely coordinate with China and jointly contribute to promoting world peace and stability, he added.

Xi-Putin Meeting Charts New Strategic Course for China-Russia Ties

BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhua) -- The high-profile meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing on Wednesday set the course for the next stage of bilateral relations and underscored the two major countries' commitment to advancing global governance reform in the right direction.

Their in-depth, friendly and fruitful talks, lasting more than three hours in total, reinforced a shared commitment to advancing the long-term, sound, steady and high-quality development of China-Russia ties, a strategic choice grounded in the fundamental interests of both countries and in line with broader global trends.

Putin's state visit to China coincided with two milestones in bilateral ties: the 30th anniversary of the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination and the 25th anniversary of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation. The two presidents agreed to further extend the treaty, underscoring the long-term nature of the friendship.

The bilateral relationship now stands at the highest level in history. The steering role of the two heads of state is the fundamental guarantee for the steady and long-term development of China-Russia relations. Having had more than 40 meetings over the years, Xi and Putin have built deep mutual trust and a strong personal friendship, providing continuity and strategic guidance for bilateral ties.

Their meeting on Wednesday sent a reassuring message to the international community that China and Russia are further strengthening the foundation of their political mutual trust, the most prominent feature of the bilateral ties.

Pragmatic cooperation is a key driver of the stable growth of China-Russia relations. To promote the high-quality development of bilateral relations, it is imperative to further deepen such cooperation across all sectors. During Putin's visit, a slew of cooperation documents were signed. Cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, investment, energy and resources, transportation, and scientific and technological innovation is expected to be upgraded.

China and Russia are also expected to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in education, culture, film, tourism, sports and other fields, and ensure that the everlasting friendship between the two countries takes deeper root in the hearts of the people.

Beyond benefiting the peoples of both countries, a stable China-Russia relationship contributes to human progress. Far from being tranquil, the world faces threats from unilateralism and hegemonism, and the risks of slipping back into the law of the jungle. Both as permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and Russia bear special responsibilities for safeguarding global peace and development.

To advance the development of a more just and equitable global governance system, the two countries have pledged to strengthen coordination and collaboration within multilateral frameworks, including the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS and APEC, unite the Global South, and steer global governance reform in the right direction.

No matter how the international landscape evolves, China and Russia will for sure move forward with composure under the strategic guidance of their leaders, and leverage the stability of their relations to tackle various challenges facing the world today.

Looking ahead, the two countries will fully seize historic opportunities, maintain the steady and long-term growth of bilateral relations, and open a new chapter in cooperation.
