In the early days on the Test and Evaluation squadron, Graham Pemberton and his colleagues would get the early software drops, test the software, analyse it, change it, test it again, train the front line and off they would go.

The result, he says, was real capability on the aircraft.

The siren sounded. Minutes later Lieutenant Colonel Fabrizio S. was heading south from Grosseto after a civilian aircraft that had gone silent.

The intercept near Naples was textbook. Then the radio stayed quiet, and there is no way to signal visually from a Typhoon cockpit. He solved it with something already in the cockpit with him.
