As part of the Water Security in Africa (WASA) SeeKaquA project “Semi-airborne electromagnetic exploration of the Kalahari’s aquifers, Africa” funded by the Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt (BMFTR), terratec geophysical services GmbH&Co. KG conducted semi-airborne EM surveys in Zambia.
Working closely with project partners LIAG Institute for Applied Geophysics, The University Of Zambia (UNZA), University of Namibia, and the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), large areas of the Machile-Zambesi Basin in southern Zambia were investigated using advanced geophysical methods.
In addition to , Audio Magnetotelluric ( ) and Transient Electromagnetic ( ) measurements were conducted to further characterise the subsurface.
The objective is to improve understanding of the basin’s subsurface structure and support more secure and sustainable water supplies.
