The M-ERA.NET Call 2026 is now open for pre-proposals (deadline: May 12, 2026). With 35 funding agencies and approximately €40 million in funding, the call addresses key areas such as advanced battery materials, energy conversion, catalysts, and next-generation electronics.
A recurring observation in materials research: strong scientific ideas alone are not enough. Proposals often fall short when the experimental methodology is not equally robust.
Reviewers increasingly expect:
-reproducible experimental setups
-well-defined and controlled parameters
-systematic approaches to material characterization and screening

Aerosol-based methods have proven valuable for meeting these expectations. They enable:
-controlled particle generation
-consistent powder dispersions
-comparable results across partners and laboratories

Systems such as the RBG System and the DNP digital 3000 are widely used in material research to support precisely these types of experimental workflows.
For teams preparing M-ERA.NET proposals, integrating such methodologies early in the consortium planning phase can significantly strengthen your proposal.

We are happy to support you in defining a robust experimental approach. Get in touch.

Our colleague Martin Schmidt, Global Product Manager for Industry & Science, is currently representing Palas at the Filtration & Innovation India 2026 Symposium — a multi-city event spanning Delhi, Pune, and Bengaluru.

Alongside leading filtration companies like BinNova, Johns Manville, and Kleiberit, Martin is presenting on Flat Sheet Media Testing and Filter Element Testing, sharing insights into reproducible filtration testing and measurement technologies.

Joining him is Soumya Saxena from our sales partner Alfatech — great to have local expertise and a strong partnership represented at the event!

Application in focus: Particle sedimentation analysis in cleanroom environments

The RBG aerosol generator was recently used at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA to study particle sedimentation rates on wafers under cleanroom conditions. Defined aerosols were generated in close proximity to sensitive wafer surfaces, allowing a controlled investigation of particle deposition behavior.

Key requirements for this application included a consistently adjustable particle concentration and short dosing times. The RBG meets these requirements very reliably and is therefore well suited for controlled sedimentation studies in cleanroom environments.

This experimental setup supports reproducible studies of surface contamination and provides valuable insights for cleanroom qualification, contamination control strategies, and surface-sensitive manufacturing and research environments, including semiconductor and microelectronics applications.

Ultrafine particles are invisible, but they are increasingly discussed in the context of urban air quality and health. Due to their small size, they are considered particularly harmful, as they can pe*****te deep into the lungs, enter the bloodstream, and trigger inflammatory processes in organs.

A long-term urban background study in Paris shows that WHO guideline values for ultrafine particles were exceeded on around one third of the observed days.

The measurements were conducted between 2019 and 2022 using high-precision instrumentation for particle number concentrations, size distributions, and PM mass, operated in line with EN 16976 and CEN/TS 17434.

Read more about this long-term study and why its measurement approach can today be seen as a practical example for future ultrafine particle monitoring.

Product in Focus
Reliable aerosol generation from powders and dusts requires more than just stable hardware – it requires precise dosing, reproducible dispersion, and flexibility across applications.

The Palas RBG System is designed exactly for this purpose. It enables the generation of low-concentration solid aerosols from non-cohesive powders with high short- and long-term dosing stability. Defined mass flows from 0.04 to 800 g/h, selectable dispersion conditions, and reproducible operation make the RBG System a trusted tool in research, development, quality assurance, and calibration.

With three models covering different requirements – from integrated pump operation to pressure-tight setups up to 10 bar – the RBG System adapts to your application, not the other way around. Fast material changeover, intuitive operation via display or software, and a wide range of applications such as filter testing, inhalation studies, calibration, and flow visualization complete the system.

Dust is a constant challenge in powder handling.

Uncontrolled dust formation affects product quality, workplace safety, and process efficiency, while regulatory pressure on dust emissions continues to increase.

In our DustView II webinar on February 18, you will learn how to measure powder dustiness objectively and reproducibly within seconds using real-time data. We show how dustiness data helps identify risks early, reduce emissions at source, and support formulation work, process optimization, and safer material handling across QA, R&D, and industrial applications.

What you will learn:
>How to measure dustiness in real time using CIPAC-based laser extinction
>How dust impacts flowability, caking, contamination risk, and material loss
>How dust data supports formulation optimization and process adjustments
>Practical examples from QA, R&D, and industrial process engineering

Modern air quality monitoring for challenging environments

Located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is particularly vulnerable to air quality impacts from transboundary pollution. Emissions transported from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, together with natural dust sources from North Africa, regularly lead to elevated pollution levels.

As part of an EU-supported project, the national monitoring network was modernized using EN 16450-certified FIDAS® systems, implemented in cooperation with ENVItech Bohemia s.r.o., regional partner of Palas. The result is continuous, real-time measurement of particle size distributions and particulate matter concentrations, supporting evidence-based air quality management and public information.

Arctic regions are often seen as pristine and free of major aerosol sources. Yet recent research shows that significant amounts of mineral dust also arise here and can be transported over long distances. Iceland plays a key role: with its volcanic sediments, melting glaciers, and strong winds, the country is one of the largest dust sources in the Arctic. The released dust affects air quality, the melting of ice surfaces, and even the global climate. To better understand these processes, the Iceland Dust Project was launched as part of the international FRAGMENT initiative. It was also part of the HiLDA project

The measurement campaign included, among others, the Palas Fidas 200S for EN 16450-grade particulate monitoring and a Promo 2000 system with welas aerosol sensors for multi-height particle measurements.

The full story including field results, PM10 peaks above 10,000 µg/m³, and technical measurement details is available here:
