September 7 is the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies. The UN General Assembly designated the day in 2019, and it has been observed worldwide since 2020.

Every effort to improve air quality starts with data. Reliable measurement is what turns an assumption about an emission source into evidence that decisions can be based on.

Day two at IAC 2026 in Xi'an

The 12th International Aerosol Conference opened yesterday at the Xi'an Qujiang International Conference Center — the first IAC ever held in China, and coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the International Aerosol Research Association.

As a Diamond Sponsor, Palas is presenting integrated measurement solutions covering the full range from micro to nano particles at booth A31/A38 in Area A, Central Hall. Day one brought a steady stream of visitors and a lot of substantive conversation — thank you to everyone who stopped by.

Earlier today, Volker Ziegler presented two contributions: a longterm test of an aerosol spectrometer for PM measurement under harsh meteorological conditions in Finland, and a study on road salting effects on particle number concentration and mass in an Austrian town. Thank you to everyone who joined.

Still to come:

September 3
10:10 am, Session E5, Room 311 — Linking ultrafine particle, PM2.5, and black carbon measurements to domestic heating activities in a rural German town (Maximilian Uebach)
5:00 pm, Poster Session 2, P2-42, Area D, 4F — Measurements of airborne fine dust and ultrafine particles at a seaport in southern Italy (Maximilian Uebach)

September 4
3:35 pm, Room 305 — Indoor PM evolution in crowded ventilated spaces (J. L. Castillo), co-authored by Palas

Today is the last day of FILTECH 2026. If you haven't made it to stand A11 in hall 8 yet, there is still time.

One thing worth seeing in person: the robotic arm for fully automated filter testing. From sample loading to removal, the entire sequence runs without manual intervention — delivering reproducible results with considerably less effort. If you are working with an MFP system, the robotic arm is available as an upgrade for your existing setup.

Also at our booth: the Promo Single and Promo Dual, our new aerosol spectrometers — with live presentations at 11 am and 2 pm.

We are at the booth until the end of the day and happy to talk through what this could look like for your application.

Not every application fits a standard solution.

For decades, Palas has been developing customized instruments and test systems for particle generation, characterization, and filter testing. While many customers use our standard portfolio, others require solutions that go beyond standard specifications.

Whether it is unusual flow rates, specific test media, special filter geometries, or highly automated test procedures, we work closely with our customers to develop systems that match their exact requirements.

If you have a challenging application or are planning a new test setup, visit us at FILTECH. We would be pleased to discuss your requirements and explore possible solutions together.

FILTECH 2026 is just around the corner — and we are looking forward to meeting you in Cologne.

From June 30 to July 2, our team will be at Hall 8, Booth A11, ready to talk about your requirements in filter testing, particle measurement, and aerosol generation.

One of the highlights at our booth: our new aerosol spectrometer — we are keeping the details for now. Come by and see it for yourself.

Also at our booth: fully automated filter testing with a robotic arm. The entire testing sequence — from sample loading to removal — runs without manual intervention, delivering reproducible results with significantly less operator effort.

Rounding out the lineup: the LFT 3000 for automated leak scan testing of HEPA and ULPA filters in accordance with ISO 29463-4 and -5. Reliable, standard-compliant, and straightforward to operate.

See you in Cologne.

See you next week in Warsaw?
Together with our sales partner MLU Sp. z o.o., Palas GmbH will be at Expo 2026, June 16–18 — come visit us at booth D2.09.

Learn more about our instruments on site:
-RBG Solo — aerosol generator for powders, pollen, and spores, with integrated pump and no need for an external compressed air supply.
-Promo® LED 2000 — light-scattering aerosol spectrometer for particle size analysis and concentration determination from 0.145 to 100 µm, built for continuous monitoring applications.
-Fidas® Frog — portable fine dust monitor for simultaneous real-time measurement of PM1, PM2.5, PM4, PM10, and TSP in the size range of 0.18 to 93 µm.
-PMFT 4000 — universal flat sheet media tester for filter performance testing and quality assurance.

Tomas Prokop, our area manager for the region, will be on site and is happy to talk to you about your requirements.

The M-ERA.NET Call 2026 is now open for pre-proposals (deadline: May 12, 2026). With 35 funding agencies and approximately €40 million in funding, the call addresses key areas such as advanced battery materials, energy conversion, catalysts, and next-generation electronics.
A recurring observation in materials research: strong scientific ideas alone are not enough. Proposals often fall short when the experimental methodology is not equally robust.
Reviewers increasingly expect:
-reproducible experimental setups
-well-defined and controlled parameters
-systematic approaches to material characterization and screening

Aerosol-based methods have proven valuable for meeting these expectations. They enable:
-controlled particle generation
-consistent powder dispersions
-comparable results across partners and laboratories

Systems such as the RBG System and the DNP digital 3000 are widely used in material research to support precisely these types of experimental workflows.
For teams preparing M-ERA.NET proposals, integrating such methodologies early in the consortium planning phase can significantly strengthen your proposal.

We are happy to support you in defining a robust experimental approach. Get in touch.
