A look back at our Family Afternoon

A few weeks ago, we opened our doors in Karlsruhe to the families and friends of our team. It was a great opportunity to show them where we work and what we do every day at Palas.

Guided tours offered a look behind the scenes, while the youngest guests had plenty to discover: a bouncy castle, a painting table, a round of Twister and, of course, our frog hunt. Delicious food rounded off the afternoon.

A big thank you to everyone who came, and to all colleagues who helped make this day possible.

Palas at IASTA 2026 in Kolkata

This week, our colleague Max Uebach attended 2026, the National Conference on Aerosol Science & Technology, hosted by IIT Kharagpur and the Indian Aerosol Science and Technology Association at the IIT Kharagpur Research Park in Kolkata, India.

Under the theme “Aerosols for a Sustainable Future: Bridging Climate, Air Quality, and Health,” researchers, technologists, and industry professionals came together to discuss recent advances in aerosol science.

Max contributed a talk titled: “From Fine to Giant: Dust Size Distribution from 0.4 to 100 µm”

The talk built on data from the Jordan Wind erosion And Dust Investigation (J-WADI), an international field campaign conducted near Wadi Rum, Jordan, in September 2022. Its goal: to better understand the size and composition of mineral dust at emission, including super-coarse and giant particles that are notoriously difficult to measure. Palas instruments, including the Fidas® 200 S, the welas® 2500, and the Cloud Droplet Analyzer (CDA), were part of the multi-instrument setup.

Last week, our colleague Max Uebach attended two conferences in Asia.

First stop was the 67th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Atmospheric Environment (JSAE) at Toyo University's Kawagoe Campus. There, he met with the team at Tokyo Dylec and with Prof. Hiroshi Okochi of Waseda University. A special thank you to Prof. Okochi for his time and the valuable exchange.

From Japan, Palas traveled on to Taichung, Taiwan, for the 33rd International Conference on Aerosol Science and Technology (ICAST 2026). Together with our partner All-Field, we exhibited our U-SMPS and had many interesting conversations with the aerosol research community.
Many thanks to the Taiwan Association for Aerosol Research (TAAR) and Tunghai University for hosting this event.

September 7 is the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies. The UN General Assembly designated the day in 2019, and it has been observed worldwide since 2020.

Every effort to improve air quality starts with data. Reliable measurement is what turns an assumption about an emission source into evidence that decisions can be based on.

The photo shows one of our monitoring systems at a ferry terminal in the Bay of Kotor, Montenegro, where ultrafine particle concentrations near the port are being measured as part of an Interreg ADRION project on green shipping corridors.

Day two at IAC 2026 in Xi'an

The 12th International Aerosol Conference opened yesterday at the Xi'an Qujiang International Conference Center — the first IAC ever held in China, and coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the International Aerosol Research Association.

As a Diamond Sponsor, Palas is presenting integrated measurement solutions covering the full range from micro to nano particles at booth A31/A38 in Area A, Central Hall. Day one brought a steady stream of visitors and a lot of substantive conversation — thank you to everyone who stopped by.

Earlier today, Volker Ziegler presented two contributions: a longterm test of an aerosol spectrometer for PM measurement under harsh meteorological conditions in Finland, and a study on road salting effects on particle number concentration and mass in an Austrian town. Thank you to everyone who joined.

Today is the last day of FILTECH 2026. If you haven't made it to stand A11 in hall 8 yet, there is still time.

One thing worth seeing in person: the robotic arm for fully automated filter testing. From sample loading to removal, the entire sequence runs without manual intervention — delivering reproducible results with considerably less effort. If you are working with an MFP system, the robotic arm is available as an upgrade for your existing setup.

Also at our booth: the Promo Single and Promo Dual, our new aerosol spectrometers — with live presentations at 11 am and 2 pm.

We are at the booth until the end of the day and happy to talk through what this could look like for your application.

FILTECH 2026 is just around the corner — and we are looking forward to meeting you in Cologne.

From June 30 to July 2, our team will be at Hall 8, Booth A11, ready to talk about your requirements in filter testing, particle measurement, and aerosol generation.

One of the highlights at our booth: our new aerosol spectrometer — we are keeping the details for now. Come by and see it for yourself.
